Windows 10: Cannot associate any MS Office 365 apps with the right file type

Mysteriously, my default file types have disappeared (.ppt, .xls, .csv, .doc, etc.) The standard "Choose default apps by file type" doesn't work because it isn't showing any Office apps (except Word) in the list.



If I try to choose PowerPoint by clicking the plus sign, I get no applications suggested.


PowerPoint is definitely installed on my computer. I can open it directly. It opens PPTX files when I open them from inside the app. I have tried to repair the installation. I have uninstalled conflicting Office products and reinstalled them. I have tried to choose default by file and Office apps don't even appear in the list.


I've read all the help articles on this subject and they just don't work here.

Office 365 on Continuum

The following steps worked for me (don't ask me how or why ):

• Click any office app on windows phone.
• In the screen, it shows New, Browse & recent files. It also shows my name/account at the top-right.
• Clicking on you name/account at top-right shows 2 accounts associated with this application.
  • Personal Account
  • Official Account
• Clicking on any of these accounts, only gives an option to sign-out.
• Since Microsoft Support technical team suggested that I reset my device. I did not want to reinstall all the apps, take backups & then reconfigure all of these again after the reset, unless it was the only option left.
• With no better option, I clicked sign-out on both the accounts listed in step 4 above. I then signed in with my official account. I was able to create new Office documents now.
• I logged-in to my other personal account also now. My office app still worked & allows me to access onedrive associated with both my personal & business accounts.

I was facing the same issues & even had multiple calls with Microsoft Support & waiting for a resolution.

Going through the above thread, I realized that multiple Microsoft accounts (personal & office) are associated with these apps. When I signed out of both these accounts from within the app & signed back in, I was able to edit using the office apps.

Default Apps and Office 365 in Windows 10

Would someone from Microsoft actually type an answer to this problem, as it described? The lame suggestions given so far have not addressed the issue. Office 365 is installed, but when attempting to associate files with Office 365, there is not a choice given
to choose an Office 365 program.

What is a user to do to get an xlsx or docx file to open with Excel 2016 or Word 2016 when the "Choose default apps" in settings is not recognizing that Office 365 exists?

office 365 vs office 2013

my Microsoft surface came with 1 month trial of ms office 365 , now it's expired.now I wanna know if I she subscribe to office 365 or uninstall it & install office 2013. what's the difference between both?
