  1. Cannot block installation of Minecraft on a Windows 10 machine with Family Safety controls

I bought my son 'Minecraft for Windows 10' app for his PC but found he was playing to way too much when he should have been doing schoolwork! So I removed the app from the PC so it is only on his Xbox which I can control better.

However, he seems to be able to bypass security controls and reinstall the App, even though I have blocked him from accessing the App Store.

What he can do is go to this link:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/p/minecraft-for-windows-10/9nblggh2jhxj?activetab=pivotCannot block installation of Minecraft on a Windows 10 machine with Family Safety controls :eek:verviewtab

...which is easily found by doing a web search in the browser. From there if he clicks the 'Install/Play' button, it correctly brings up the Microsoft Family Features window with the message: "You'll need to ask to use this app. You can't use Microsoft Store because of your family safety settings, but it doesn't hurt to ask" - all well and good.

However, if you click on the 3 dots next to this button, and select the 'Install on my devices' option, this then allows him to select his PC and the app silently downloads and installs on the PC in the background, completely bypassing the family controls and not asking for any permission.

I cannot block Minecraft for Windows because in Family Controls, it does not distinguish between Minecraft for Xbox or Win10 so blocking it would also block it on Xbox which I don't want to do.

Also, I cannot seem to block the URL above in the Content Restrictions section - in fact I cannot block any microsoft.com URL - this seems to be some kind of policy I guess it may upset the OS if this is blocked.

It seems to be that there is a hold in the security which means if a game has been purchased, it is impossible to stop it being installed on any device even when App Store is blocked.

Can someone suggest what I can do here please?

    Thanks.

    :)

  2. Blocking Minecraft through Family Safety

How do I block and unblock Minecraft through Family Safety? I am running Windows 10. When I ran Windows 8.1 before MS "upgraded" Family Safety just before the launch of Windows 10, I could go into the "Apps" page of Family Safety and easily block and unblock
Minecraft. Ever since MS "upgraded" Family Safety just before (and presumably in preparation for) the release of Windows 10, Minecraft does not show up as an App that can be blocked.

Based on another post, I've blocked Java Runtime, but that does not block Minecraft on my machines.

This is a critical issue, at least for my family. Please help.

Windows 10 Family Safety is blocking my browser!!!

Can you confirm if you are out of the Family Safety feature on your parent's account on this
link? If you've confirmed that you're no longer on the list of monitored child accounts, we suggest deleting the Family Safety folder. Here are the steps:

    • Press Windows key + E on your keyboard.
    • On the address bar, type this address C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Parental Controls and press
      Enter.
    • Delete all contents of the Parental Controls folder.
    • Restart and see if the issue is resolved.

Let us know how it went for you.
