Windows 10: Cannot boot into Windows 7 after installing Windows 10 Tech Preview

So recently, I've installed Windows 10 on a separate partition on my 500 GB hard disk that's about 40 GB, and it works perfectly. Except that I can't boot back into Windows 7.


All of my files are still accessible and working, I just can't actually boot into the OS. When I attempt to through the Windows 10 boot screen, first it reboots, then it goes to a black screen with 8 short lines of bright blue pixels on the top left. After a couple of moments, multi-colored pixels start appearing and changing all across the top couple of lines of pixels. This happens in the course of about a minute or so. I usually give up and turn it off cause I notice there is obviously something wrong.


Is there anything I could do to fix this? I've looked everywhere to see if anyone had this problem, but I couldn't seem to find anything.

Technical Preview isn't allowing me to get my reservation to Windows 10 RTM

I think I have two issues here, which may be related. I'm currently running W10 Tech Preview build 10162 (which I'm hearing isn't the last build). I cannot update this version after the release of W10 RTM. I'm not getting the Window 10 app icon in my
system tray and I cannot reserve my upgrade. What can I do to get Win10 RTM? I was running Windows 7 prior to upgrading to W10 tech preview.

 

Upgrading From Windows 7 to Windows 10. Can I change hard drives?

Hello! I currently have a dual-boot system with Windows 7 and the Tech Preview, and am planning on upgrading to Windows 10 when it's released. I was wondering, however, if I would then be able to upgrade to a SSD after upgrading. Can someone tell me how
to go about doing this?

Alright, I waited a little longer and it just rebooted. Still nothing.

Read though all of the tutorials, ask any questions before you act (that saves time sometimes - even if you have to wait for a member to reply *Wink)

When did you install Win10? There were some reports of a bad update last week or the week before. I didn't have any issues on my machine (HP laptop), but I don't think I fired up the Win10 machine until after the update was pulled/repaired. Sorry I don't have the KB mentioned.

I'm not sure how to go about fixing a device driver when you cannot boot up - there's a way, I'm sure ... I just don't know it.

I'll look around to see if I can't locate the reference to the 'bad' update. At lease then you could check to see if it's on your machine.

Someone mentioned hiding the Windows 7 letter from within 10, try that then re boot.

Yeah, I just installed Windows 10 two days ago, actually, so I'm pretty sure I didn't get the bad update you're talking about. Maybe.

Did you try start up repair in the link I posted?

 

Ok, kinda weird, but it just booted. All I did was load the boot menu, choose the HP option, and it worked. When I tried that before, It showed me the option to go into Safe Mode, and I got it to successfully boot into that, so maybe something happened in-between that made it miraculously work?

I'm going to reboot normally, and if it doesn't work, I'll keep trying. Thanks everyone for the help. I really appreciate it.

I did try that, but it asked for an administrator password for the account, and no account was listed.
