Windows 10: Cannot change my display language on Windows 10

Hi Microsoft Community,


I recently purchased a new laptop in China (with Windows 10) and wanted to change the display language from Simplified Chinese to US English. I was able to change my the keyboard, text-to-speech, handwriting and even Cortana to English, but for whatever reason the package does not have the display language option. I have checked through the forums and all the solutions are the same, asking me to install the English language package then switch the windows display language at the top, but no option for this appears. I see on my older laptop that this is easily doable, but for whatever reason, this is not an option for me on this laptop.


I also am using my Microsoft live account on this laptop, but my preferred settings for English did not transfer over (other things did). I did follow the instruction of restarting after the setup but still have not seen any changes. I also made sure that windows is updated to the latest version.

Is there any solution I can try to get this changed?


On the images below the admin settings, the top line is the display language which remains under Simplified Chinese, but the rest I was able to change to US English. Not sure why I cannot change this.

Windows 8.1 update changed the language, can't change back

Maybe, these will help... it seems it is a common enough problem.

Language packs are no longer available after you upgrade to Windows 8.1

And, sort of the same here --> Add a language or keyboard

Change your Windows display language

• Tap or click Set as primary to move the language to the top of the list. If the language can become your Windows display language, you'll see Will be display language after next sign-in appear under the language.
• Sign out and then sign back in to finish.

I suggest you to Change settings that may block installation

There are advanced language settings that may block the download of language packs. To revert these settings to their defaults values so that you can download language packs, follow these steps:

• 
  Open Control Panel. To do this, type Control Panel in the
  Search box, and then tap or click Control Panel in the search results list.
  
• 
  Tap or click Clock, Language and Region. (If you are viewing Control Panel in icon display, select
  Language, and then go to step 4.)
  
• 
  Tap or click Language.
  
• 
  Tap or click Advanced settings.
  
• 
  Examine the Override for Windows display language and
  Override for default input method lists. Make sure that the
  Use language list (recommended) option is selected for both lists

To assist you better I would like to know, what was the base language for your previous Operating system?



I would suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: Remove the Japanese language.

• 
  Press Windows + X on your keyboard.
  
• 
  Select Control panel.
  
• 
  Select language.
  
• 
  Click on the Option adjacent to the
  Japanese language.
  
• 
  Click on remove under input method.
  

Step 2: Add English Language.

• 
  Press Windows + X on your keyboard.
  
• 
  Select Control panel.
  
• 
  Select language.
  
• 
  Click on Add language.
  
• 
  Add the English language from the given list.
