Windows 10: Cannot connect to XRDP running in WSL via Remote Desktop

Hi there!


I have WSL 2 with Ubuntu running with an XRDP server, and Remote Desktop Connection allows me to connect just fine. Unfortunately Remote Desktop Connection has a known bug where it does not relay Ctrl+Alt+Arrow which is a key combination I would like to use, so I installed Remote Desktop from the Windows Store. But when connecting to localhost:3390, I get the following error after a couple seconds:


Disconnect code: ReplacedByOtherConnection, legacy code: 0x204, legacy extended code: 0x0, activityId: {8ffb7434-9c76-4c1c-a8cc-d23dc8920000}


As mentioned, connecting to the same address via Remote Desktop Connection works just fine.

First I thought maybe this has to do with trying both at the same time, but even after closing Remote Desktop Connection and restarting the PC, I get the same problem.


What can I do?

Windows Remote Desktop Client and Ubuntu

I understand that you are facing issues while connecting to Ubuntu client using Windows Remote Desktop connection.



In order to connect to remote desktop session on an Ubuntu machine you need to install XRDP server on Ubuntu first. You can refer the article

Installing XRDP from Ubuntu to install the XRDP server and connect to a Windows PC.



If you have already installed the XRDP server and then you are trying to connect to Remote Desktop session, I would suggest you to post your query on

wsl 2 password

I have apparently successfully installed WSL 2. However in the initial stage of creating the server I forgot the Linux convention of not echoing the password entry and ended up with an unknown entry. I am set up to use xrdp. When I try to use Windows
Remote Desktop I cannot log into WSL. I used passwd to reset the password both with and without root privilage without solving the WRD login problem. Is the initial root password special and cannot be changed ?. WRD says it connects successfully. Thanks
for any help.

 

Remote Desktop Connection problems


Have you tried Remote Desktop Connection, to connect from your Windows 10 laptop to your Windows 7 desktop? Try it first, post back and tell how it went.

Some additional help because you mentioned you are a remote newbie *Wink. The windows 7 related tutorials from our sister site the Seven Forums:

1. On Windows 7 desktop, set network location to either Home or Work (I recommend Work):
   • Network Location - Set as Home, Work, or Public Network - Windows 7 Help Forums
2. On Windows 7 desktop, allow incoming remote connections:
   • Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) - Network - Windows 7 Help Forums
3. On Windows 7 desktop, find out its IP address:
   • IP Address - Locate and Find for Your Computer - Windows 7 Help Forums
4. On Windows 10 laptop, start the Remote Desktop application and connect to the Windows 7 desktop using the IP address from step 3 above (see Part Three in the tutorial):
   • RDC - Connect Remotely to your Windows 10 PC - Windows 10 Forums
   • Notice that although the tutorial is written for Windows 10, it also applies to Windows 7

Try the above, post back how it went.
