MBR2GPT fails with error - Cannot find room for the EFI system partition.

Regarding this image, which partition should I extend?

The problem wasn't that I didn't have enough space to update, it was the MBR2GPT error: "cannot find room for the EFI system partition"

MBR2GPT fails with error - Cannot find room for the EFI system partition.

    Hi,

Would love to get some help

I'm trying to install the new Win10 update but then I get this error: "windows can't be installed because this pc has an unsupported disk layout for UEFI firmware"

Afterward I run MBR2GPT run it in WINPE but I get this error: "cannot find room for the EFI system partition"

I have two partitions on this disk: 1. System. 2. Recovery and 100mb unallocated.

When I try to shrink volume on Disk Management I get 0 size of available shrink space in MB.

The disk has plenty of free space though.

    Any ideas?

  4. cannot create EFI system partition. Error: 0x000036B7 when running mbr2gpt.exe Cannot...

How can the EFI System Partition and the Recovery Partition be mirrored or created?

I followed you advice and did what is described in the guide by using Diskpart.

The major problem I encountered is that SET ID command does not work for a dynamic disk.

I may create a partition for the EFI system partition on a basic disk and execute SET ID on this partition and then convert the disc dynamic and mirror the C partition.

    A simple error:

    DISKPART> set id=C12A7328-F81F-11D2-BA4B-00A0C93EC93B

    There is no partition selected.

Please select a partition and try again.

We must select partition 2, not volume 1, on disk 0 before executing the above command.

This requirement is not mentioned in the Guide.

Can the ID assigned to the EFI partition without C parttion? What should be the GUID used as the ID? For what purpose is the ID used?

In the following transcript, other errors that occurred can be found.

    I will appreciate any help.

    Toshi

Disk 1 is running correctly, and the C partition on Disk 1 was mirrored on Disk 0

after making a partiton of 200 MB for the EFI partition.

I am using Windows PowerShell running on Disk1.

    PS C:\Windows\system32> diskpart

    DISKPART> list disk

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt

    -------- ------------- ------- ------- --- ---

    Disk 0 Online 465 GB 319 GB * *

    Disk 1 Online 465 GB 19 GB * *

    DISKPART> select disk 0

Disk 0 is now the selected disk.

    DISKPART> list partition

    Partition ### Type Size Offset

    ------------- ---------------- ------- -------

Partition 3 Dynamic Reserved 1024 KB 17 KB

    Partition 1 Reserved 14 MB 1041 KB

Partition 2 Dynamic Data 200 MB 16 MB (to be made into an EFI partition)

Partition 4 Dynamic Data 126 GB 216 MB (C patition has been mirrored here)

Partition 5 Dynamic Data 338 GB 127 GB (for user files)

Disk 0 does not have a correct EFI partition.

Partion 2 has been created to make this the EFI partition

    DISKPART> list vol (list volume)

Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info

    ---------- --- ----------- ----- ---------- ------- --------- --------

Volume 0 U Empty 1 NTFS Simple 19 GB Healthy

Volume 1 A New Volume NTFS Simple 200 MB Healthy

Volume 3 C NTFS Mirror 126 GB Rebuild Boot

Volume 4 FAT32 Partition 100 MB Healthy System

Volume 5 NTFS Partition 509 MB Healthy Hidden

Volume 3 is mirrored on disks 0 and 1 as partition C. volumes 4 and 5 are on disk 1. I am trying disk 0 bootable.

DISKPART> sel vol 1 (select volume 1 on disk 0)

Volume 1 is the selected volume.

    DISKPART> set id=C12A7328-F81F-11D2-BA4B-00A0C93EC93B

    There is no partition selected.

Please select a partition and try again.

We must select partition 2 on disk 0 before executing the above command.

This requirement is not mentioned in the document referred to in your reply.

    DISKPART> format quick fs=fat32 label="EFI Disk2"

    100 percent completed

    DiskPart successfully formatted the volume.

    DISKPART> list vol (list volume)

Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info

Volume 0 U Empty 1 NTFS Simple 19 GB Healthy

Volume 3 C NTFS Mirror 126 GB Rebuild Boot

Volume 4 FAT32 Partition 100 MB Healthy System

Volume 5 NTFS Partition 509 MB Healthy Hidden

    select volume 1

    DISKPART> set id=C12A7328-F81F-11D2-BA4B-00A0C93EC93B

    Virtual Disk Service error:

The operation is not supported by the object.

The specified command or parameters are not supported on this system.

Can the ID be any GUID?

    DISKPART> exit

    Leaving DiskPart...

    PS C:\Windows\system32> bcdboot c:\windows /s a:

BFSVC Error: Failed to set element application device. Status = [c00000bb]

    Why did this error occur?

The reason for this error may be because the C partition is mirrored.

    SET ID command

Changing partition type fields with this parameter might cause your

computer to fail or be unable to start up. Unless you are an OEM or an

IT professional experienced with GPT disks, do not change partition

type fields on GPT disks using this parameter. Instead, always use the

CREATE PARTITION EFI command to create EFI System partitions, the

CREATE PARTITION MSR command to create Microsoft Reserved partitions,

and the CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY command without the ID parameter to

create primary partitions on GPT disks.

This command does not work on dynamic disks nor on Microsoft Reserved

    partitions.

    Example:

    SET ID=07 OVERRIDE

    SET ID=ebd0a0a2-b9e5-4433-87c0-68b6b72699c7
