These are networks I've never connected to, and never want to. However they always appear with that checkmark ticked. If I untick, it just ticks it back. Ironically, my own network is never ticked (and if I tick it, it automatically unticks). This feels like a bug (or some evil prank).

    Any solutions?

Every "solution" for this I found online says to go to Wifi settings and untick this there, however the only wifi option that shows there is mine (the one I want to keep).

Windows 10 stop automatically connecting to random new wi-fi networks

    Hi,

I have searched a lot, but all the tutorials I found only explained how to not connect automatically to a known wi-fi network or how to disable wi-fi sense... but this is not what I am looking for...

    PROBLEM:

    • When my laptop (Windows 10 Pro X64) is not connected to a network and the wireless adapter is on, it will automatically connect to any random new unsecured wi-fi network... The only way I have now to avoid this is to disable my wi-fi adapter.

UNUSEFUL TUTORIALS I FOUND ON THE INTERNET:

    • How to manually uncheck the option for a particular wi-fi network not to connect automatically in Network Properties. This is not what I am looking for. This would suggest that everytime I power my computer. I would have to manually go through all the available wi-fi networks and unclick them all...
    • How to disable Wi-Fi Sense. This is not useful, because I don't even have a Wi-Fi sense option in my computer where the tutorials say it should be.

    EXPECTED BEHAVIOR:

    • I am looking for an option to tell my computer to stop connecting randomly to unknown wi-fi networks like an hyperactive, reckless idiot.

    PERSONAL COMMENT:

    • Honestly, why would any respectable company think that it could be somewhat wise or secure to do this... Anyone's computer could just randomly connect to any hacker's wi-fi network without the user even knowing it...

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Device attempts to connect to all UNKNOWN and KNOWN networks within range via "connect automatically"

    Hi Jon,

I checked the registry values you suggested and the only network listed under the profiles is my home network.

The issue appears to be a misunderstanding on my part of how the connect automatically feature is written for the GUI.

It seems the "connect automatically" box is checked by default for all password protected networks to save clicks on the users end.

I may have a different unknown issue as to why I am having issues automatically connecting to my home network.

Thank you very much for your response.

Cannot disable "Connect automatically" for unknown networks

disabling the auto-connecting of unknown networks!

Sorry to disagree and unfortunately I cannot send you a screenshot, but:

    1) Your pc cannot connect to any network if it does not know the wi-fi password.

it surely cannot, but it will attempt - because the check box for those networks is ticked to 'Connect Automatically. For some reason, every time I unselect, It is selected again, as I said twice. I see no way to permanently prevent my PC to connect automatically
to those unknown networks. I don't understand why they are all marked as 'Connect Automatically'. On Settings, I can only manage known networks, therefore, I cannot prevent this. As a result, my PC is permanently switching from my known network to unknown
ones in the area if they appear to be stronger then mine. Because... they are marked as 'Connect Automatically.

    Does this make sense?

    2) If your network is not marked to connect automatically it is because you have configured it in this mode.

I have check but every time I click again 1 second later, it appears uncheck. Just as the opposite for unknown ones.

I am a bit frustrated because I have the impression I am being discredited while reporting an issue I find many other people reporting in old threads, dating back to 2015. Simply, I don't see any solution.

The reason my network is dropping is because ALL networks in the range are marked as 'Connect Automatically' ,so if I go to one room where an unknown network is stronger, mine will be dropped in favor of that, and as I don't have the password - obviously
    - I go offline.

Please, try to picture that, it is a legit issue, do not assume I do not know what I am talking about or that I cannot understand what you wrote. Again, your explanation and suggestion do not address my issue at all.

Just the title of my post says it all. I do not claim I want to control unknown, I just don't want to be connected automatically to them, and I cannot figure out how.
