Windows 10: Cannot edit Windows registry

I am running Windows 10 Pro with the latest updates installed on a Lenovo Thinkcentre PC. Ever since the last Windows update I am no longer able to edit the Windows registry. When I double click on a .reg file I get the following error message. "Not all data was successfully written to the registry." I tried it with administrator privileges. I rebooted into safe mode and got the same error message. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks. John

• You uninstall Microsoft Digital Image.

Trying to disable the Insert key with a Registry edit

Any way to edit the registry without loading Windows?

You will need to find a way to grant yourself permissions for full control of that hive/key.
Just as the "Trusted Installer" has.
You may have to log on as admin to do this.

I did it a long time ago, to get rid of & edit some hives, keys, etc.
