    Cannot effectively close an embedded spreadsheet object inserted in Microsoft Word


    After inserting an excel object in word, I double-click it for editing, and when I click outside of the excel document and proceed into work, there is a "shadow" image. Below is a screenshot.

    Embedded spreadsheets in Office 2016

    After completing the online repair there is no change.

    I am suspect that the problem lies within the security settings or recent security update from Windows. As I mentioned, the files can be opened and edited on other machines, but for some reason not on the machine in which the documents were created. I have
    used this machine to open and edit these docs for quite some time until recently when I began receiving the security error message.

    A few moments ago, I created a new document, embedded a spreadsheet as an excel object then saved the file. I then opened the doc to edit the spreadsheet, and received the same access error. I closed the error message, shutdown my machine for 3 minutes to
    clear the cache, restarted, opened the newly created file and was still unable to edit the document.

    This ONLY occurs with embedded excel spreadsheets. I am able to edit Word Docs, tables within the doc and text within the doc. All functionality in each of the standalone programs works fine, with exception to embedded spreadsheets applied to Word Docs.

    Unable to insert COM object as picture

    In Windows 10 I am unable to insert object as picture. It shows only icon.

    To reproduce the issue:

    1. Open for example wordpad or any other application which supports object embedding.
    2. Choose insert object.
    3. choose insert from file
    4. Choose any jpeg picture.
    5. File is inserted but shows as icon only. This is regression from Windows 7 as previously it was possible to insert directly as picture.

    Workaround is to insert Paintbrush object then open image and copy paste in paintbrush but it is very inconvienent. It seems the crappy Microsoft Photos app is interfering with this but not sure how to uninstall it.

    Embedded spreadsheets in Office 2016

    Hello All,

    I have recently been having trouble opening embedded spreadsheets in Word 2016. These are documents that I have created on the same laptop that I use when editing the documents. I have always been able to access and edit the excel objects that were embedded
    in the Word document until recently (about 2.5 months ago) Now when I attempt to open the spreadsheets to edit the contents I am receiving an error message that says I do not have access privileges.

    I have checked to ensure nothing has changed with the security permissions of the files, and they are unchanged. It may also be good to note, that I have emailed a copy of the document to myself and opened it on a different computer, and everything works
    fine. I can open, edit and save the file.

    Is anyone else having this problem? The laptop that is having the issue is a Dell Inspiron 17, 7000 series with Core I7 intel &th gen. Model PJ0E.

    Any Insight would be greatly appreciated.
