Windows 10: Cannot exit S mode

Discus and support Cannot exit S mode in Windows 10 Gaming to solve the problem; I have tried everything, all windows updates are done, all apps in the store have been updated, and I have run wsreset.exe and re-booted and shut down...     Cannot exit S mode


    I have tried everything, all windows updates are done, all apps in the store have been updated, and I have run wsreset.exe and re-booted and shut down more times than I can count. I am still getting the "something happened and we couldn't start the upgrade" error. I've been trying for more than a day. Any other suggestions to get out of S mode? S mode makes this laptop practically useless to me.

    Hi Ron,

    Thank you for responding.

    I suggest you to try the below steps to exit from the Safe mode on Windows 10.

    Steps to place the computer in normal mode.

    • Press Windows + R keys to open
      Run command.
    • Type msconfig and press
      Enter.
    • In the System Configuration window, click on
      General tab.
    • Select Start-up selection as
      Normal startup, click on Apply
      and Ok.
    • Follow onscreen instructions.

    Cannot exit S mode

    Stuck in safe mode in windows 10

    Safe mode is intended to help fix most, if not all problems within an operating system, it's not good if we got stuck on it. To correct this, we suggest that you follow the steps below to exit out of Safe mode:

    • Open Run command by pressing Windows key + R
      keys on the keyboard and type msconfig in the command box and press
      Enter.
    • Under General tab, put a check on Normal Startup option.
    • Reboot the system and check if the changes are effective.

    Let us know if you are able to exit out of Safe mode with these steps.
