Cannot get file hash computation in MS Defender to work

I'm trying to enable the hash computation feature for the event logs in MS Defender, and appear to be unable to do so.The feature is set in Intune, and also tried via the local GP editor. I can see a reg key, but no hashes appear in the event log. This is a W11 device, running the latest patches, MS Defender is 4.18.24070.5.Any ideas ?

    :)

I suggest you verify whether the files really are identical. Generate different hashes- as f14tomcat suggests below..

What convinces you the hash value computed is embedded in the file?

I don't think that step #3 is even needed. The probabiliy of two MD5 hashes from differing files colliding is what, 2^-128 ?
Even if your were hashing a million files the odds of a hash collision on differing files is astronomically small.

Cannot get file hash computation in MS Defender to work

MS Defender Won't Load After Upgrade to Windows 10 Ver 1511

Attempted every step in document provided by Microsoft

    Redirecting

Nothing worked, HOWEVER, the last step is to Delete Conflicting Registry Entries. My registry contains one of the entries listed (MsMpEng.exe) however, REGEDIT could not delete this entry as I was directed.

Problem still exists; as soon as I start MS Defender, it stops.

    Any further suggestions?
