cannot get rid of recycle binned files made under different os

    hi.
got a new win10 machine and plugging in an old win 7 data drive (as data drive).
was doing an anti-virus scan and noticed that it's scanning files from that data drive that were already deleted when still under win 7 (as in thrown into recycle bin). they don't show up on the win 10 recycle bin. is there any way to delete those files without reconnecting that drive back to the win 7 machine or something tedious like that?

unhid system files and tried to unmark the folder as read only and deleting it.. no joy with the unmarking and deleting. disk cleanup didn't do anything either.

    thanks.

nevermind. rebooted and deleted ok. not sure why it worked. maybe because the drives have different drive labels under different os and vlc was playing something in a different harddisk that had the same drive label in old win 7 as this drive in win 10?

    :)

  2. Recycle Bin

    Hi Evelyn,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Help with below information to help you in this regard.

    * From where you're trying to deleting the files?

Deleting files which are stored on Removable drive (I.e. USB), Network drives and deleted files from command prompt, and/or from compressed (zipped folders) willbypass the Recycle bin (I.e. avoids moving them to Recycle
    bin).

Moreover, selecting the option "Don't move files to the Recycle Bin" under Recycle bin, will also impacts this action.

If the option is checked then uncheck the same.

    * Right-click Recycle Bin,

    * Under General tab, select OS (Ccannot get rid of recycle binned files made under different os :) or accordingly where OS installed,

    * Ensure that "Don't move files to the Recycle Bin, Remove files immediately when deleted". Remove files immediately when deleted"
option is unselected. If it is, then try to change the value to
    Custom size.

Keep us posted for any concerns, we're glad to assist you.
