Windows 10: Cannot get Windows 10 to switch to Japanese

no matter what I do I cannot get windows to type in Japanese.I downloaded the Japanese language pack and IME.I checked the "use the desktop language bar when it's available" checkbox.I switch the language in the language bar from ENG to JP.At this point for some reason and is never elaborated on at all, every guide says all I have to do is type "a" and it should switch to hiragana.Nothing happens. ever. it just types the English "a".and then the language bar disappears randomly at some point and the "use the desktop language bar when it's available" checkbox has unchecked itself.why is this

Switching Japanese Windows with English menus

Yes, I do mean those keys. I tried just switching to Japanese keyboard, as you suggested, but those keys didn't work. Also, the selection key is normally the spacebar in Japan but I could only get IME to work with the Tab key (for those who aren't familiar with Japanese typing: you type in Roman characters, then press a selection key and it steps you through a list of options for the word you are typing in Japanese characters). Did you get the special keys to work as they do in native Japanese mode?

It may well be that I was missing something, although I did try every option I could think of. In any event, as I said, I gave in and now have Japanese Windows running with English menus and everything seems to be working perfectly.

Japanese IME switches to permanent Romaji when in-game

Do you have the same problem in other games? You can try the following steps first.

1. Run the keyboard troubleshooter

The first thing to try is the keyboard troubleshooter.

1. Open the Settings app with the Win+I keyboard shortcut.
   
2. Go to Update & security.
   
3. Select the Troubleshoot tab.
   
4. Click Additional troubleshooters.
   
5. Select the Keyboard troubleshooter.
   
6. Run it and apply all fixes that it recommends.
   

2. Change language and input method

There are two steps to using typing in Japanese. If you only switch to the language, you may continue to type in English.

1. Switch to the Japanese language (use the Alt+Shift keyboard shortcut to switch languages).
   
2. Look at the taskbar and you will see an A icon.
   
3. Right-click the A icon and turn on Kana input or enable Katakana or Hiragana, whichever you want to use.
   

3. Change keyboard layout

In addition to installing the Japanese language, you also need to install the correct keyboard layout.

1. Switch to the Japanese language.
   
2. Open the Settings app with the Win+I keyboard shortcut.
   
3. Go to Time and language.
   
4. Select the Language tab.
   
5. Select Japanese and click Options.
   
6. Click Change layout.
   
7. Open the dropdown and select Japanese.
   
8. Click OK and restart the system.

Switching Japanese Windows with English menus

I have just reinstalled my PC with Japanese Windows (it's the only way to enable the full use of a Japanese keyboard - special keys etc.). However, I want my system language to be English (menus etc.). So far I have tried the following:

Settings:
Installed English language pack
Made English default language

Power menu (not sure of proper name - win_key-x):
Tried to switch language to English but does not appear in the menu.

Suggestions greatly appreciated!
