cannot install Windows Subsystem for Linux

I am using Windows 11 OS build 22631.3155 on a desktop PC. I was using Windows Subsystem for Linux WSL about two years without problem. I did a Windows Reset to remove malware and now WSL does not work. If I click on Start > Ubuntu the error message is "WslRegisterDistribution failed with error: 0x8007019e. Error: 0x8007019e The Windows Subsystem for Linux has not been enabled." If I type 'wsl' in Windows PowerShell as administrator the error message is "Class not registered. Error code: Wsl/CallMsi/REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG." I did enable WSL and Hyper-V in 'Turn Windows Features On Off'.

    :)

Windows Subsystem for Linux has no installed distributions.

    Hi everyone,

I bought an Asus laptop (A15) in 2022 June, and I am currently trying to run the windows subsystem for Linux on this laptop. (Current OS is windows 11)

However, after I followed the instructions here How to install the Linux Windows Subsystem in Windows 11 - Microsoft Tech Community,

although I have installed the distribution Ubuntu (run "wsl --install -d Ubuntu" in cmd will show "Ubuntu is already installed."), if I run "wsl.exe" or "wsl" in cmd, it still shows "Windows Subsystem for Linux has no installed distributions.".

I can see the Ubuntu icon in the start menu; it can be clicked, just no response at all, even after restarting the computer.

I also tried installing the other distribution Debian; the problem remains.

I looked up the troubleshooting here Troubleshooting Windows Subsystem for Linux | Microsoft Learn, yet my issue remains.

They mentioned "The WSL executable is only installed to the native system directory." on the troubleshooting page; however, I did not see any solutions for that (and I am not sure if that IS the problem I am facing now).

    Is there any suggestion?

cannot install Windows Subsystem for Linux

    Issue with installing linux subsystem.

    Hi,

    This error while installing Linux subsystem might popup if the PowerShell environment isn’t run as an administrator. I suggest you to run the Windows PowerShell window as an administrator and see if it helps. To run a PowerShell window as an administrator;
right click the Windows icon on the taskbar and choose Windows PowerShell (administrator).

If that doesn’t help, restart the Trusted Installer service and set the startup type to automatic.

    · Press ‘Windows + R’
keys on the keyboard together to open the Run dialog box and type the following into the Run box:
    services.msc

    · Locate the Trusted Installer
service, restart it, and set the startup type to
    automatic.

    · Exit services control panel and restart the machine to see if the issue persists.

However, if the issue persists, I would suggest you to post your query in the
    TechNet Forums
, where we have support professionals well equipped with the knowledge on Windows Subsystem for Linux.
