Windows 10: Cannot Install Windows Update Error 0x80073701

I have a laptop with Windows 10, and since November I have not been able to install any cumulative updates. The most recent version is '2021-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based Systems KB5008212'. Meanwhile, security intelligence updates have installed successfully.Every time I attempt to perform the update, it downloads the update, but the install halts at 20%. After half an hour, I get the error message 0x80073701.I have attempted every solution I could find to resolve the situation, including running the troubleshooter, running the system file checker or DISM to

Repair install or Windows Update?

Sounds like you've set updates to Notify.

If you don't know how to navigate to that policy, Policy Plus (free) has a useful 'Find' feature:




You can try Tweaking.com's tool, if if still no joy, proceed to the next step, which as Tekkie Boy indicated would be an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data, or just do that anyway.

They should have no impact on group policy settings.
