Windows 10: Cannot log-in due defaultuser1 in Pre-Boot Authentication

Hi,


I have laptop HP ProBook 450 G5 with disk encrypted using BitLocker I have recovery keys for drives

My Windows account is Microsoft Account with Active Directory Joined that's why I have those recovery keys - backup in account.


Those HP laptops have PBA called "Power-On Authentication" which triggers before BIOS is turned on.

It was working fine my password and fingerprint let me log in until a few days ago. When PBA comes to action I can only see "DESKTOP-XXXXXXX\defaultuser1". Obviously I haven't created such an account and never seen it before.

I suspect but not 100% some Windows update is ongoing thus some "defaultuser1" is treated as a temporary admin account.

I cannot change this user, I cannot reset settings, cannot boot from USB, cannot go to a command line, cannot go to recovery mode, cannot restore the system to the previous version - PBA is working well in this case.


Do you know what could be the password for this "defualtIuser1"? Or how could I use credentials for my normal account?


Now I'm working remotely thus connecting with my home Wi-Fi, could this defaultuser1 be changed to proper account when I log-in connected to the internet in office RJ-45?

Kerberos Pre-Authentication error

I have a Windows 10 domain joined machine that keeps
throwing up Kerberos pre-authentication every 20 minutes. It is a Surface Pro machine, I tried to clear Windows cashed credentials, then I scanned the computer. I managed to
disable pre-authentication for the user via the AD. But I wouldn’t like to use
this as a resolution as I think there is a security risk

 

Bitlocker - Pre Boot Password - alpha, numeric, special characters

I am only able to setup Bitlocker to use a numeric PIN for pre boot authentication.

How can I setup Bitlocker to require a password using alpha, numeric, special characters for pre boot authentication?

 

Dual boot Windows and Linux with pre-boot authentication and encryption

Is it still possible to encrypt both Windows and Linux (in this case Ubuntu) with a tool that works on both operating systems? I'd like to have a pre-boot authentication setup, like what you used to be able to do with TrueCrypt, but since it is no longer in development, and has proven to be insecure for this method, I was wondering if a new tool had come out to do this. I know that VeraCrypt came out after TrueCrypt was discontinued, but it only has pre-boot authentication with Windows. The only reason I wouldn't run that or BitLocker beside a LUKS encrypted Ubuntu OS is because I'd like to be able to encrypt the original boot partitions, and keep the bootloader to decrypt them on a USB (like I did with TrueCrypt), so it isn't vulnerable to attack. I know this is a paranoid method, but I'd like to be able to do it if possible, and I haven't found an adequate replacement to TrueCrypt that would do all that for both operating systems.
