Windows 10: Cannot login Windows after removing PIN

First things first, my laptop uses my Microsoft account when I first bought it. So the only account in my laptop is my administrator account, which is linked with Microsoft.


Instead of using the password of my Microsoft account to login windows, I set a PIN instead. Recently , I removed my PIN, and just to check if it's actually removed, I locked my laptop with Windows + L. When I turn it back on, I'm getting this message "something happened and your PIN isn't avaliable. Click to set your PIN again." And below this, "Set up my PIN". When I click on "set up my PIN" it just goes back to the previous screen which displays my wallpaper, current time, and battery, power button etc.. that screen. I click space to go to the login screen again, then clicking on set-up pin will go back to the previous screen.


I am currently stuck in an infinite loop and cannot set up a new PIN, so I'm being locked from my own laptop. Now, I logged into my microsoft account on my phone, go to manage devices, and still could see my DESKTOP-NAME is linked with my Microsoft account. I also decided to lock my laptop from the manage device panel. Now, on my laptop it shows a message "this device is locked by an admin, have an admin sign in to unlock.." After that, it still, only shows to set up a new pin but I can't... It just keeps going back to the previous screen.


I tried booting in safe mode, but even in safe mode it still asks me to create a new pin. I don't understand why there is no other button, usually we can choose to login with our Microsoft account password, but not now. It only asks to create a new pin, but I'm not able to. Please help.

OSK PIN login on non-touch device

I suggest you to create a PIN for your device and try the on screen keyboard to login to the same.

You may follow the steps below to create PIN protection for your device.

• 
  Go to Settings and select account.
  
• 
  Click on sign in option and Go to PIN option.
  
• 
  Now click on Add and set PIN for login.
  

You can use the same PIN to login to your device using the on screen Keyboard from ease of access option and verify the result.

Remove sign in pin

I suggest you to follow the below steps to remove the sign in pin/password options.

• In the search box type sign-in-option.
• Click on the sign-in-option.
• Then you can find password/pin/picture password.
• There you can remove the option and check.

Pin Login not available and can't change or remove my pin

Hi Saschavan,

To help you disable your PIN login, kindly follow the steps below:

• Go to this location: Settings/Accounts/Sign-in options
• Check the PIN options and click the I forget my PIN available to click?
  
• Enter your password, it will prompt you to enter a new PIN.
• Click Cancel and your PIN should be disable upon reboot.
