Windows 10: Cannot make any changes to PC because Elevation is Required

I enabled the setting "only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft" because it's "recommended".

But now whenever I try make a change to my device that requires administrator privileges, it asks me to use windows hello and accepts it but when I click "ok" it says "Elevation required". I've tried with face and fingerprint signing in and there isn't an option to sign in via any other way but neither work.

I've also recently installed Bit Defender Premium and one of it's features is it blocks the camera from being used, I did add an exception to it so that it lets me sign in however and it allowed me for me face to be recognised and press "yes" so I'm not sure if this is causing the problem but as I said previously pressing yes makes it say "elevation is required".

I can't even uninstall Bit Defender even if it is causing the problem because you need Administrator to do it.


Info that might help:

• I am the owner of the computer, am Administrator and should but don't have complete control of the computer
• I updated windows to the kb4598242 cumulative update today not sure if this is relevant
• I have Bit Defender premium installed which can block the camera but I am sure I've unblocked it because windows shows it recognises my face and allows me to click "yes"
• I am running 64 bit windows on a surface pro 4
• There isn't a setting I can change that requires administrator privileges

Windows 7 - The requested operation requires elevation

• I know very little about computers and understand less.
• I used Open Office (4.1.0) for ages without a problem, until for no discernable reason (that I could understand - I certainly didn't operate my PC any differently) I started to get the "requires elevation" message.
• I started to use Libre Office. Again, I used this for a long time without issue, until one day recently I got the "elevation" message - again, not having done anything different.
• After I changed to Libre Office, I used it to open Open Office documents. I am now using Word Pad to open Open Office and Libre Office docs, but it does not support everything, so the settings are sometimes off - out of alignment etc.
• This PC is in my home. I am the only user and therefore I have the only Profile. I am the Administrator. As such I am bemused. Why does the PC that only I ever use think that I need a higher elevation? And a higher elevation than the Administrator??!!
• If anyone has an answer or a suggestion as to what I can do to fix this, please bear in mind that I will need words of one syllable and VERY clear instructions! To be honest, I am not hopeful. I have seen numerous suggested answers in response to this error
  message, and so far they have not worked. That said, I have not seen my particular issue being raised.

7z Setup SFX require elevation

Hi,

The error “The requested operation requires elevation” when trying to launch
the 7z Setup SFX.exe indicates that you do
not have elevated privileges. This normally means that the installation EXE file has not been run as an administrator, which is different than logging into the computer as Administrator.

It seems you're running on a Windows Server. If so, they are supported via the

Trying to open file in open office getting error "The requested operation requires elevation".

I see that when you are trying to open an odt file (openoffice) and you get the "The requested operation requires elevation" error.

For the first issue, I suggest that you try to change the ownership of the file that is creating this error and check if the issue persist. Follow the steps mentioned below to change the ownership of the file or folder:

• Press and hold the folder that you want to take ownership of, then tap
  Properties. (If you are using a mouse, right-click the folder, and then click
  Properties.)
• Tap or click the Security tab, tap or click Advanced, then tap or click
  Change. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
• Type the name of the person that you want to give ownership to, and then click
  Check Names.
• Note: the account name for the person that you are assigning ownership to is displayed.
• Click OK.
• If you want this person to be the owner of the files and subfolders that are contained in this folder, select the
  Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.
• Click OK.

NOTE: If you're not logged on as an administrator on your system, the above steps will not work as taking over file object ownership requires administrator privileges.
