Windows 10: Cannot open any files or folder on my Windows 10 - loading stuck

Hello all!I am the tech support from a business and we noticed that some of our laptops, are having an issue.When we try to open a folder or file on the desktop, the loading icon would show up, but nothing would happen after this.It looks like it is stuck on a loading loop.I tried to open Task Manager and restart "Windows Explorer". didn't workI tried to open CMD and run sfc /scannow. didn't workI tried to open CMD and run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. didn't workI tried going to Control Panel > Troubleshooting > View all > System Maintenance. didn't workThis is happenin

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

File Explorer hangs and loads files one by one when open folder

Thanks for the further suggestions guys. I'm going to save the in-place upgrade as a last resort, but I'll keep it in my back pocket.

An interesting development - per the advice of a Microsoft representative, I deleted the following registry folders:

• \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU
• \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags

The files no longer load one by one when I open a folder. Unfortunately though the freeze still happens for about the same amount of time. Here's a new video:


I can confirm that the freezing issue only happens in folders containing .wav files. The more .wav files in a folder, the longer it hangs when I open it. Other folders, even massive ones filled with 10GB+ of .mov files, still load almost instantly when I open them.

Any ideas about why the .wav files might be causing this?

Random thought - I have VLC set as my default player for .wav files. Could this possibly have something to do with VLC?

I would suggest you to follow the steps and check if it help.

  Open file explorer, click on view and select options.
  
• 
  Double-click on options, in the general tab click on Open each folder in the same Window.
  
• 
  Click apply and ok.
