  1. Cannot open mail app settings

    Hi

For the longest time, the mail app has been working well. But this morning, I noticed that it hadn't synced with my IMAP server since yesterday so I tried to edit the settings. When I click on edit settings, the settings window opens but I cannot open the settings of any of the mail accounts. This means I cannot even delete the account to recreate it. When I tried to add the account again, I got an error message 0x8007054.

Anyone know what is going on? I can log into my imap account from my other win10 computer and other devices so that is not the problem.

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

  2. Mail Windows 10, Cannot open or upload attachments

What does it mean "Mail Windows 10, Cannot open or upload attachments" from your description?

Answer; it mean; Mail app from Windows 10, Cannot open nor upload any attachments

Is Mail app doesn't open or it won't open the attachments?

Answer; "Mail app cannot open nor upload any attachments"

Did you tried restarting your PC?

    Answer; yes.

The guide you provided is very general and it will make me to reconfigure my mail...completely misguided...

How do you digitally sign email in Windows 10 for Mobile?

SSL encryption is available only with a Microsoft 'Exchange ActiveSync' account.

    When I open the Outlook Mail app, open Settings and then select 'Email security', I get the following message;

"This setting cannot be applied to any of your accounts."

Maybe Outlook Mail app could include an option to 'sign with/import a digital certificate' and then links to and opens the Microsoft 'Certificates' app (from Windows Store).

This app has a 'Personal Certificates' section from which an installed certificate can import to Outlook Mail.

As a first approach you could try the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter to see if it will find any problems. Type troubleshooting in Search and then select "view all" in the Troubleshoot Control Panel. Towards the bottom is the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter.

  5. Following a suggestion I found later in this forum, I deleted the file C:\users\\{username}\appdata\Local\Comms and restarted Mail. This allowed me to recreate my mail accounts with the exception of Outlook.com. When I tried to create that, it gave me an error saying something went wrong error code 0x8000ffff. I tried rebooting to no avail. I was able to recreate my gmail and imap accounts though, strange!!

I ran system file check and troubleshooter and they found no problems I need the outlook account because it contains my calendar.

OK, my next suggestion was going to be uninstalling Mail and Calendar and reinstalling from the Windows Store. You can have a go at this by following these steps.

    1. Open the Start menu, type Windows PowerShell.
    2. Right click on the Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator.
    3. Enter the below command to remove the Mail and calendar app.

    get-appxpackage *microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps* | remove-appxpackage

After performing the above steps, install the Mail and calendar app from the Windows Store.

Hope this helps, you will, of course, have to add you accounts back again.

  7. No joy. After deleting mail and calendar and installing again from the Store, it still does not allow me to install my outlook.com account. I can install all my other accounts fine. I can also access my outlook.com account on my other win10 computer and my phone. I also booted into safe mode and deleted the comms directory in the user profile. The same thing still happens. I'm afraid the only thing left is to do a repair install of win10, unless someone can direct me to something else!

The odd thing here is that this problem started happening today with no warning or anything.

    Cannot open mail app settings

Hopefully, someone else has a suggestion. Can you think of anything that happened to trigger it today? Do you ever use a local account or do you always use a Microsoft account to login to W10?

  9. I have no idea what triggered this. What I remember was that I couldn't open my mail account settings when I clicked on the settings icon. Yes I generally use my Microsoft account to log in to win 10. I am hoping that a repair install of win 1will fix this.

I noticed a strange thing that had eluded me before that may be related to this. When I bring up the menu to Add an Account, it lists the usual Outlook.com, exchange, google etc options under Choose an Account that you can add but there is one entry at the top "myname@outlook.com" and the description is Microsoft Account. That entry does not appear in my other win 10 computer. I have no idea how it got there or whether it is related to my problem but I don't know how to get rid of it. When I click on it, it brings the same 0x0000ffff error message. Any thoughts?

    Hi falkunmalti,

Interesting. I'm wondering if your Microsoft account has got confused between computers. On the Start menu type account and it should take you to the system account page where you can confirm how you are logged in and then select "Manage my Microsoft Account".

    Is everything as you expect?

  12. Yes everything looks all right. I wish I knew what file or setting has to be changed to reset that account page to remove that Microsoft account entry. Deleting the comms folder did not do it when I deleted it. Maybe a registry entry?

  14. Hi Phil

Thanks for persevering with me! I read through your tutorial and I am not doing anything that I shouldn't be. I am logged in the same way to my two computers, so there should not be any differences there. The thing is the only account that is giving me issues is the outlook.com on that one computer. Everything else works fine. I am going to backup the computer and try a repair install and see what happens.

  15. Hi Phil

Well as a result of a forced restore of an earlier backup of W10, all problems are now gone. I don't know what was causing those problems and I likely never will. Thanks for staying by me and helping me out. The problem with outlook.com is also gone.
