  1. Cannot Open Microsoft Store On Windows 10 With Parental Controls

    Hello,

I have parental controls setup for my daughter and until recently she could open the Microsoft Store app and install free apps with all cost apps requiring my approval. Now she cannot even open the Microsoft Store app at all though it is listed off the START menu. I have seen similar issues recently reports of this issue and have confirmed the following:

    • No issue if I log into the computer with an unrestricted account though installed apps are 'locked' to the logged in user so the child account cannot access them.
    • No prompt when attempting to open the Microsoft Store - simply won't open and/or is greyed out.
    • Do not see anywhere to modify access to the Microsoft Store through parental controls https://account.microsoft.com/family or http://family.microsoft.com.
      • In the "App and game limits" section the store is not blocked.
      • In "Content Restrictions" the store is not listed.
      • In "Spending" both "Needs organizer approval to buy things" and "Email me when they get stuff" are enabled, though I have tried with them disabled and the store still cannot be opened.
    • No updates pending for the system running fully patched Win10 2004.

As this was a fairly sudden change I suspect something was updated either in Windows, the store app or in the parental controls. I would definitely appreciate help to get this feature functional again as it is tough to manage a child account if they cannot install things through the Microsoft Store.

    Thanks in advance!

    :)

    Parental Controls aren't working

    Hi,

The issue could be because of corrupted files. I suggest you to delete the corrupted files yourself and see if it helps

to resolve the issue, please follow these steps:

    1) Make sure your children are signed out of any monitored accounts.

    2) Sign in with an administrator account and find the folder that contains the corrupted files.

There are two ways to do this. The easiest way is to enter the complete file path:

    • On the Start screen, type C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Parental Controls and press Enter.

    • If you’d rather open each folder individually, follow these steps:
    a. Go to This PC

    b. Open C:, open the
ProgramData folder, open the Microsoft folder, open the
Windows folder, and open the Parental Controls folder.

    3) Delete all contents of the Parental Controls folder.

This will delete any corrupt files. Your settings will be downloaded again from familysafety.microsoft.com the next time you sign in.

Hope it helps. Reply with the result and I'll be happy to help you further. Thank you
