Windows 10: Cannot reinstall windows because don't have password cannot login, cannot format, cannot do...

I have a very strange problem. I am selling my Dell XPS 15 9560 laptop and I cannot restore the system. I cannot login. I cannot do anything. Reason is that it used to use pin to login and now it is asking for a password that I don't have. Probably because I have kept the pin and the account unchanged since I bought it second hand myself.Some update or something has messed this up. I cannot even access command prompt in troubleshoot menu. I have already a buyer for the laptop and I cannot reinstall the system.Does anyone have any idea how I can get this done? Doesn't seem like I can do anythin

Password issue

After going through the steps to make a new password, after a week or two, my login credentials are no longer valid. I'm forced to make a new password all over again. It seems to happen if I don't login in a certain period of time. Does our passwords expire???

 

No login password craziness

Brink, that was the missing step. What threw me off was in netplwiz, where it asks about password for my MS account, the user name was not the same as my MS account name. Once I entered the password (twice) I can now login without entering a password. In fact the name that was listed was not the MS account name, but a folder name. The folder is the one that shows when you click on C:\Users.

How to format on Windows 7

just format from the installer on the windows 7 DVD. the options there when you choose which drive to install on.


i suggest partiotining the drive, i run with a 60GB C: drive, but then move my user folder to the D: partition - so that when i format/reinstall, my desktop/my docs, etc, dont get lost.
