Cannot rename a folder because Windows says a file in it is open

This has been a really, really dumb problem for decades. So it always amazes me when the people who contribute to this forum act as if they have never seen it .Windows uses an obsolete process called Thumbnail caching. It theory, it used to speed up searches back in the early days read 1990's of Windows. When you open a directory, it creates a thumbnail image, and if you try to rename, move or delete the directory, Windows will not let you, saying that something is open in that directory.I know this because before my company outsourced IT to IBM read "India", we could have this thumbnail

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
