Windows 10: Cannot rename WiFi adapter name

Discus and support Cannot rename WiFi adapter name in Windows 10 Network and Sharing to solve the problem; My desktop PC has no built-in wireless adapter, but I occasionally plug in a USB-attached wireless adapter.     Cannot rename WiFi adapter name


    My desktop PC has no built-in wireless adapter, but I occasionally plug in a USB-attached wireless adapter. Windows has given this adapter the name "Wi-Fi 2". I tried renaming this to "Wi-Fi" and got the message
    Device manager, even when showing hidden devices, shows no other wireless adapters, but it doesn't show Wi-Fi 2 either when the adapter is not plugged in. In the past I almost certainly tried a different WiFi adapter so that old adapter is probably "Wi-Fi".

    This is certainly not a major problem, but I'd like to get rid of that old adapter definition. How do I even display that old adapter definition?

    I was wondering can you put anything as a wifi name for example I wanted to put CIA-outpost-#### random number is that illegal? I've seen FBI surveillance van 006 before on my list of wifi names I can pick up.

    Wifi adapter disappears - goes 'hidden'


    Running Windows 10 on an Acer laptop. Over the past month, the wifi connection dropped without explanation/warning.

    First time, the adapter was visible in Device Manager (with a yellow triangle next to it). An interent search found the suggestion to uninstall it and restart. That worked.

    Today, the connection dropped again. In Device Manager at first I could not see the wifi adapter listed. I clicked to see hidden devices and found the adapter and the Bluetooth (which I had not noticed was missing).

    I again uninstalled, restarted, and both the wifi and bluetooth have returned.

    Anyone any ideas as to what is happening, why it's happening, and what I need to do, please?

    I have attached a screenshot of the DM windows as it is now, showing the wifi adapter name, etc.
