Windows 10: cannot set my screen resolution to 1920x1080 and reboot on windows 10

I have a 4k laptop but have developed vision problems so I have to change my display resolution to 1920x1080.This works fine until I reboot.When the machine reboots it appears to revert to 3820x 2160 4k but keeps the display set tp 1920x1080 the result is the entire display is squished into the upper 1/4 of the display. It also flashes on and off so you cannot get a picture long enough to do anything like try to login and fix the resolution. Plus I am nearly blind and cannot see a 4k screen when it covers the entire dispay smashing it down into 1/4 of the display I'd would need an electron

No 1920x1080 resolution option

My screen suddenly went from 1920x1080 to 1024x768 in the middle of running Windows 10.
Never had this problem before and the resolution was just fine on Windows 10 until this happened.
This would be easy to fix if the Resolution options in the Display menu had 1920x1080, but they only go up to 1280x1024!
I tried downloading and manually (Update driver > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer) installing the driver, even though Windows 10 insisted "the best driver for this device is already installed"!
I also tried switching to Generic PnP Monitor and back. Although this affected the resolution somehow, it didn't solve the problem.
And for the record: There is NO Advanced display settings option in the Display menu.
Why can't there just be a 1920x1080 resolution option?
How do I fix this?

How to set the resolution 1920x1080

I recently received and updated the latest windows 10 feature update. Previously, my screen would fit entirely, at the resolution 1920x1080 and I would be able to toggle this setting through windows display settings. However, post-update I only have three
resolution options, the highest being 1280x1024. I have not changed anything else. I would appreciate a solution as it is quite hard (and annoying) to work at a resolution that doesn't fit the monitor. Thanks!
