Here is the log that I found in the event viewer regarding the defragmentation:A volume shrink analysis was initiated on volume Windows C:. This event log entry details information about the last unmovable file that could limit the maximum number of reclaimable bytes. Diagnostic details: - The last unmovable file appears to be: \$Mft::$BITMAP - The last cluster of&

Shrinking of C Drive is Not possible

    windows 8.1

i have total space of around 220 Gb in C drive which i would like to reduce and transfer the space to other drive. when i tried the 'Shrink' option, it showed available shrink of around 5Gb which reduced the C drive to 215 Gb.

How to further REDUCE the volume in C drive and Transfer the space to Other Drives?

    Help me out.

You will need a 3rd party program to do what you want to do now.

I am supplying a link because I have to as the source of my explanation

Read here why that problem exists in Windows operating systems:

    http://www.partitionwizard.com/resizepartition/windows-7-can't-reduce-partition.html

Answer: the reason may be that there are immovable files contained in the space you want to shrink. Immovable files can be pagefile, hibernation file, MFT backup, or other types of files. To reduce partition size in Windows 7 Disk Management when these
files exist, users need to delete or move them to another drive in advance. Nevertheless, it is not easy for common users to find these files, let alone delete/remove them. Aiming at this situation, we recommend a very simple solution, namely using the free
partition manager MiniTool Partition Wizard. It can solve the problem that Windows 7 can’t reduce partition size in most situations, including the one mentioned here.

    Cheers.

  4. Cannot shrink my C drive beyond 5GB despite have 150 GB of free space

I am not able to shrink free space from my C drive , even when it shows 189 GB free ?

I wanted to free up space from my C Drive so that I can install ubuntu in the free partition , but when I clicked on the C Drive in the disk management to shrink free space , it shows me only 7000 mb available even when it shows 118 GB free .

Can you please suggest me some method so that I can empty up free space ?
