    Cannot sign in as Administrator anymore ... help please?

    I have a big problem? I was getting this looping when I tried to update Windows home 10 so I looked at the help and one of the options was as follows

    • Type: regedit in Start > Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList;
    • Backup your registry key in case of any unexpected error (with ProfileList highlighted, click File and Export and choose a backup name);
    • Scan through the ProfileList IDs and delete any with ProfileImagePath found in it as it shouldn’t be there;
    • Close regedit, reboot and the Windows 10 reboot loop error will be removed.
    I exported the file as a backup and not thinking left it in My Docs on the C Drive. I booted and now cannot sign in as administrator so therefore can not access the backup file to import them back.

    I would like to be able to sign back as administrator so I can access my stuff. Can anybody help please?

    :)

    Try system restore if you have restore points (preferred, if it functions).
    or
    You may be able to restore the backup copy of your registry (see attached).

    Note: we strongly recommend the routine use of disk imaging e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + boot medium + external storage for disk images.

    Using this means you can often recover from disaster relatively quickly without technical help.
    - even if your disk fails (new disk) or your PC is unbootable due to corruption on disk.

    The prob is I have to sign in with a temp account so I hane no restore points. I do have a bootable Windows 10 iso that I created a while ago so could I use that to recover or will it just want to install again which is ok if I have to as most of my stuff is backed up but would prefer not to have to go down that road.

    Then please use the registry backup restore approach as per my previous post.

    Remember you can start system restore having booted your PC from a Win 10 boot disk (click Repair your computer etc), but I can't tell you if that will let you access restore points- it probably won't.

    Assuming your system drive is d:, run the following command to restore Windows registry:

    I am not sure what they mean by run?

    This command is shown in the picture below with a red underline to highlight it for you.

    copy d:\windows\system32\config\RegBack\* d:\windows\system32\config

    It is in a black command prompt box.

    So at the end of the line you press the RETURN or ENTER key.
