Windows 10: Cannot sign in to my PC

Hi,


I have a Dell XPS laptop with Windows 10.


I had my Microsoft account linked to the login screen, set up with a 4 digit pin and all was working well.


Today, whilst logged into my PC account, I logged into Office365 with my work account via chrome. I also logged into my work account via Skype for business, on my PC app.


When I shutdown the PC and turned it back on again for personal use, I went to log in with my 4 digit pin as usual. At this point, a message came up saying work policy is to have a 6 digit pin. This was still under my personal MS account login so I am not sure how this happened.


So I changed the pin to log in, but I wanted to change it back to my 4 digit pin instead. I signed out of all my work accounts and tried to remove the 6 digit pin so I could set it up again. Here, it wanted me to enter my account password, but it wouldn't recognise it when I KNOW it was correct. I even changed it several times in my MS account, to no avail.


Instead I went through the change pin option and I was able to change my pin back to my 4 digit one. However now when I go to log into my PC with the pin, I get the message "Something happened and your PIN isn't available. Choose another sign-in option and set up your PIN again by going to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options".


But when I try to log in with my password, which again, I know is correct because I have just changed it, it says "The password is incorrect. Try again."


So now I am totally locked out of my PC.


I would appreciate any assistance as I need to be able to access my PC for work ASAP!

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

 

PC Build Steps

Ok just because I like steps i am going to create some steps. Please give me the stamp of approval/disapproval

• Install system in case
  • Remember to connect SSD and optical to same SATA ports on motherboard
• Turn on PC
• setup HDD
• run blend test in prime95 for 30-60 min
  • run realtemp at the same time

• While in Prime95 test
  • if CPU goes above 70c in RealTemp, I have a leaky CPU
  • if my system locks up or blue screens, there is an instability in the system somewhere
  • if my system does not lock up or blue screen, my CPU is not damaged and I am in the clear!

What do you guys think??

Hi,

About your concern with typing the password after being idle, it is actually recommended to activate for security reasons.

If you wish to disable it, I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Settings.
• Click on Accounts.
• Click on Sign in options.
• On the right side, you will see required sign in.
• Change it to Never.

Let us know how it goes.
