Cannot start any program suddenly on Windows 10

    Hello,

I just upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 two days ago. I installed Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 last night. Office seems working fine. However, this morning I cannot start any program, such as Adobe Reader and Google Chrome. No error message. I even cannot uninstall the chrome from Control Panel!

Nothing changed. Only one thing I notice is that Microsoft Visual C++ 2005, 2008, 2010 Redistributables have been added automatically.

Does any one has had the experience before? What is the problem?

    :)

    Hi Acanoe,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I regret the inconvenience caused to you. Let me help you.

    Please share the details below.

    • Have you made any changes in settings prior to the issue?

I suggest you to perform the below methods and check if it resolves the issue.

Method 1: Try to run the below mentioned command.

    • Open the Task manager. Here’s a tip: Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.
    • Click File > Run New Task
    • Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”
    • Type Powershell
    • Type the following in the Powershell prompt:

      Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
    • Close the Powershell window
    • Reboot
    Method 2

If issue persists, try to check the system files are they working fine or not and to check that try to run
    System File Checker (SFC) tool.

SFC scan will scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows 8.

    • Press Windows key and X at the same time.
    • Choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the context menu.
    • In the command prompt, type sfc /scannow and hit Enter.
    • Exit command prompt.
For more information refer to this link:

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

    Method 3

If issue persists try to create new user profile as an administrator and see if issue persists in new user profile. For creating new user profile you may refer to the steps provided in the article mentioned below.

Create a local user account in Windows 10

We will need more info to help you with this. Do you get an error message when you try to start the program? Does the program window just flash then disappear? Or does nothing happen at all? Also knowing the make/model of your computer or the build info if you build it yourself will help as well. Remember, there is no such thing as too much info when trying to fix a computer.

Hi ArazelEternal, Thank you for your response.

There was no error message as I already said in my initial post. The computer is a Dell computer I purchased 2 years ago. After upgrade to Windows 10, it has worked fine for 2 days. It has Intel i5-4460S CPU at 2.90 GHz; 8 GB RAM

Even after installation of Microsoft Office Home & student 2013, every program work fine until this morning.
