TLDR:I cannot connect to internet on my Windows 10. The Network icon is missing from Taskbar. When I open Taskbar settings/Turn system icons on or off, the Network option is greyed out.More Scenario:I am not sure if there was any updates with the Windows or not, But when I turned on my laptop after 3 days, I asked my to press any keys to skip disk check. I pressed some keys to skip it. And I saw that Network icon had already disappeared. I decided to restart again, this time with disk checking. After it checked and fixed drive c:, the icon is still gone and now I can't connect to wi-fi.What sh

Windows 10 wifi not turning on Acer Aspire laptop

In order to get the list of available wireless networks, you have to:

    1. Switch on Connect to suggested open hotspots (see the screenshot in question);
    2. Click on Wifi icon in the right corner. Now you have your networks back.

After that the parameter from Step 1 can be turned off, networks will be listed normally after restarting Wifi.

P.S. I feel rather stupid at the moment. I thought that open hotspots are passwordless hotspots and so are presumably not very safe. So of course I've turned that off during installation.
Really hard to see any logic in this case.

  3. WiFi icon to look at networks is gone

    Hi Nicholas,

Issue reported: Wi-Fi icon at the bottom left corner of Microsoft Windows is disabled or not visible.

Scope: There could be two possible problems that either a Wi-Fi network adaptor is disabled or WLAN Adaptor card for laptop/desktop has a hardware fault. (Other than the general troubleshooting)

    General troubleshooting

    Method 1

    • Right click on Taskbar > Properties > Notification area, customize > Turn system icons ON or OFF > Turn ON Network > Go one step back > select which icons appear on the taskbar > turn Network icon ON

If network is greyed out, follow below mention steps

    Method 2

Open Task Manager > Locate windows explorer and right click on it and select and "end task" (if there are multiple instances of windows explorer > please "end task" all of them > Click File (top menu) and then Run New Task

type "explorer.exe" without quotes and check the mark against "Create this task with administrative privileges"

    Method 3

Open device manager and check if there is no yellow triangle with an exclamation mark mentioned on the network adaptor, that could be a driver problem or missing wireless network driver.

    Network Adaptor Identification

    • We can try to navigate the below mentioned steps to reach the network connections and check if the Wi-Fi adaptor is disabled or not.
Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections >
Cannot turn on network connection wifi. Icon is gone. a8c0cbab-ccbe-445c-9355-ee9752c3fda0?upload=true.jpg

    • You can contact the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and inform them about this problem so that they are aware of this situation, irrespective of the warranty provided for a device. There is a possibility that the WLAN adaptor card for laptop/desktop has a hardware fault.

Win 10 Network Printer Connection Problem

I have tried, when using the wifi from a Win 7 computer to connect to the printer connected to it. Others can connect.

I did do the three steps outlined:

    • Open File Explorer. Pick the "Network" icon from the left pane (navigation pane) of the file explorer UI.
    • If sharing is turned off you will see a pale yellow line towards the top of the window that states "Network Discovery is turned off. Network computers and devices are not visible. Click to change...".
    • Click this bar and select "Turn on network discovery and file sharing"

    None of the suggestion worked.

I did notice that the PC I'm connecting to is 'Private' while I am listed as 'Public'.

    • Can this be causing the problem?
    • Are there other suggestions?

I need to be connected to use the other printer so work flow can not be disrupted and someone else needs to print the file for me.

I will be with this group again on Monday.

    Thank you.
