Windows 10: Cannot type Japanese Kana any more after the latest windows update 17763.805

After Windows update a day or two ago, the Japanese IME completely gives up its job, it only types latin alphabet. I have tried de- and installing the IME already. No effect.


Screenshot below, lower right corner indicates IME was already on Japanese Hiragana.

Japanese IME Keyboard not typing in kana but just English

I installed the Japanese IME keyboard a year ago, and it was working fine. I would type in the romanji and then the corresponding kana character would appear on screen. I could switch from English to kana at any time via the little
keyboard icon at the on the taskbar that looked like this "あ"
when it was on kana mode and "A" when it was on English mode. However, now when I switch try to switch to the Japanese keyboard it doesn't even show the kana icon "あ" just the English one.
I've tried re-installing and restarting my computer, but it does nothing. I eve tried going into advanced settings to play around with it, but nothing. I don't want to mess up my other computer settings, so I stopped trying to fix it myself.

I need help because I need this function for my studies.

 

How to change the typing method in Japanese from Kana to Romaji?

You can perform the following steps on how to change the typing method from Kana to Romaji or vise versa:

1. Press the Windows key and R to launch Run command.
2. Type-in control to open Control Panel.
3. Click on Language.
4. Click on Options beside the Japanese input method: Microsoft IME.
5. Under Input method, click on Options.
6. A small window will pop out and under IME input mode notification, please click on
   Advanced.
7. Under input method, you can click on the drop down box to and choose either
   Romaji or Kana Input.
   
   
8. Click OK.

Switching Japanese Windows with English menus

Yes, I do mean those keys. I tried just switching to Japanese keyboard, as you suggested, but those keys didn't work. Also, the selection key is normally the spacebar in Japan but I could only get IME to work with the Tab key (for those who aren't familiar with Japanese typing: you type in Roman characters, then press a selection key and it steps you through a list of options for the word you are typing in Japanese characters). Did you get the special keys to work as they do in native Japanese mode?

It may well be that I was missing something, although I did try every option I could think of. In any event, as I said, I gave in and now have Japanese Windows running with English menus and everything seems to be working perfectly.
