Cannot update and long start times, caused by updating in inactive hours

Around 5 days ago I left my computer on at night, woke up to it constantly restarting at the lock screen, didn't pay any mind as it happened once before and moved on. Today I did it again and this time it was doing it but now the computer takes around 6 minutes to boot at the please wait load screen. Realized since its 5 am it's probably doing it at inactive hours and tried to update, restarted with no attempt to update; Okay maybe it's a bug so I full turn off and attempt to restart and update, once again nothing but after taking 6 minutes to start it just black screens and turns fully off, s

    Vista Automatic Updating Error

    Resolution Suggestion:

    # To resolve this problem, make sure that BITS and the Automatic Updates service are started..

A simple solution but one that works in most circumstances!

    1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

    2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

    3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.

    4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

    5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

    6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

    7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

Windows 10 update: start up and sleep issues caused

    Dear Vijay,

Thank you for your response: apologies for slow feedback.

Regarding step 1 - doing a restore point : I tried this twice and twice it failed. Now, the date of the update that caused the issue (13/14 September 2019) has disappeared from the history list. Is there a way of finding it, still?

Regarding Step 2- the list of updates installed: the two suggestions above do not seem to appear in the list in the window "Installed Updates".

There are two updates listed for 13 September - Security Update for Adobe Flash Player and Security Update for Microsoft Windows.

Could you advise what I might try next?

    Thank you so much.
