Cannot update to Windows 10 due to old video card

HiI was told by the Windows 10 update tool that my video card was not supported and therefore couldn't update to Windows 10. I did a little research and found a relatively cheap card from Maplin that was compatible with 10. I've installed it all OK but the update tool still refers to my old card - the date of the update tool is from yesterday - can I get the update tool to run again or will it do it automatically?

    :)

Windows upgrade doesn't recognize upgraded hardware

I had a video card not compatible for Win 10. I installed a Nvidia GT 610 with the latest drivers for win 10. My reservation app. still shows I cannot download due to the old video card. How do I get my reservation to update my new video card to download
    Win 10?

How to rerun windows 10 upgrade after changing to a compatible video card

After I reserved for windows 10, the upgrade failed due to an incompatible video card (Nvidia Geforece 7900GS). I then changed the video card to Zotac Nvidia GT630. But when I tried to get windows 10 upgrade, the compatibility checker still registered
the old video card information and failed to proceed with the upgrade. How to wipe out previous windows 10 reservation and restart over?

    Mike,
You have to re-run it, but make sure you have rebooted(not just restarted).

    Does it re-run itself?

You should be able manually rerun the tool by typing the following in command prompt (admin)

    schtasks.exe /Run /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser"

Could take a while to run and complete (maybe up to 20/30 mins max)

Edit: croeso i'r fforwm (According to google, that is Welsh for 'welcome to the forum' *Biggrin

Is the report of the upgrade tool really relevant? I mean, f the old card is no longer presnt in your system, then it won't cause any trouble. If the upgrade tool is not actually blocking you from doing the upgrade, you may just hit the "Upgrade" button (or what it was called) and let the upgrade run.

Cannot update to Windows 10 due to old video card

It's the PC's onboard graphics that were unable to be upgraded. I bought and installed a separate graphics card which i'm now using.

You might try going to the MS website and using theUSB using RUFUS, and upgrade that way.

You might then want to go to the Device Manager and make sure that the old graphics card actually is disabled. This should prevent Windows from trying to use it.

Command prompt suggestion - took less than a second to run - nothing changed!

Have gone to media creation tool on website - will let you know what happens!

    Thanks for your help!

In some cases -- NO. I got a report indicating everything was ready, no hardware problems, no software problems -- and the upgrade tool trashed my laptop to the point I had to restore it from HP Recovery Media to get it back working. Also, unofficial word from HP reps on the HP Support Forum is that the compatibility checker is not able to handle hybrid graphics machines and some with integrated graphics, so it produces a report that says everything is OK, when it is not.

You should do a full image backup of your system with something like Macrium Reflect -- BEFORE you charge down the upgrade path. Better to be safe than sorry.
