Windows 10: cannot update USB drivers of my devices - Error code-1

Hello, I have win11 24h2 version for few months and today I find out that I cannot use my new USB device because windows is unable to install drivers. I tried multiple times to disconnect USB, restart PC or install drivers, all the time I am getting reply that system windows found correct drivers but errors occured during thr process and therefore installation failed. Also I tried via Fortect to update other drivers on my PC and also all of them failed due to error code-1. So I am sure that this is not problem with the device that I recently purchased but with the system, because also another

USB Devices not work - code 38

I understand that you are receiving an error Code 38 for USB mass storage device. I’ll certainly help you with the issue.



The error code 38 states that Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. It is caused because the driver could not be loaded because a previous instance is still loaded.

I would suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned below:



Method 1: Reboot your computer



The simplest way would be to reboot your computer and check if that helps.



Method 2: Rollback the driver



If the issue persists, I would suggest you to try rollback the driver and check. Refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Press and hold the Windows key + X, and select
   Device manager.
   
2. In Device manager, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
   
3. Right click on USB Mass Storage device and select
   Properties.
   
4. Navigate to the Driver tab and click on
   Roll Back Driver.
   
5. Restart the computer.
   

Method 3: Reinstalling the driver



If the issue persists, I would suggest you to try reinstalling the driver and check. Refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Press and hold the Windows key + X, and select
   Device manager.
   
2. In Device manager, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
   
3. Right click on the USB Mass Storage
   device and click on Uninstall.
   
4. Uncheck the box Delete the driver software for this device
   and click on OK.
   
5. Restart the computer.

USB-Speakers, USB Composite Device Cannot start. (Code 10)

The code that you’re getting is a common driver error. This could sometimes mean that a driver for a specific device is failing to load which could be your smart card reader or other USB composite device. To isolate the issue, kindly provide us the following
information:

• Have you made any changes on your computer prior to the issue?
• Have you installed the latest Windows updates?
• Do you have any external other device connected via USB?
• How did you update your USB Composite Device drivers?

As an initial troubleshooting, we suggest that you follow the methods below:

Method 1: Uninstall the Driver

1. Go to Device Manager.
2. Locate the device that is causing the code 10 error. Right-click it and select Uninstall on the context menu.
3. When prompted to confirm the uninstallation, check the box next to “Delete the driver software for this device” and click the OK button.
4. Restart your computer and check to see if the issue is resolved.

Method 2: Update the driver

You can update the driver manually by going to the manufacturer’s website for the device that has the code 10 error, and search for the most recent correct driver. You may also follow these steps on how to update the USB
composite device driver via Device manager:

1. Hit Windows key + R key together to open Run dialog box.
   
   Type devmgmt.msc in the box and hit Enter to open Device Manager.
2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers dialog.
   
   Find and right-click on USB Composite Device.
   
   Then click Update Driver Software.
3. Click Search automatically for updated driver software.

USB composite device "driver error"

Can you send us a screenshot of the error message? We suggest uninstalling and re-installing USB drivers and check if the issue persists. To do that, please follow these steps:

• Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
  
• Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
• Right-click on the first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then click on
  Uninstall to remove it.
• Repeat these steps for the entire USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
• Restart the computer. Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.
