    Hello,I am trying to upgrade Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro. I have purchased the upgrade for $99 from the Microsoft store. However, whenever I press the "Install" button on the Microsoft Store page, the "Preparing for Upgrade" stage fails with error code 0x80070490. I purchased an OEM key because I was so fed up trying to debug this process, but that hasn't worked either, because it can only be used on fresh installs, not upgrades from existing Windows 11 Home instances.Things I have already tried:- Restarting all of the services associated with windows update:i. Windows License Managerii.

    Trying to upgrade to Windows Pro 11 (from Home 11) error code 0x80070490

    Bought a new computer running Windows Home 10. Updgraded to Windows Home 11, and purchased upgrade to Windows Pro 11. But it's telling me "upgrade failed. Error Code 0x80070490.

    I've seen others have used a temporary key to get it to upgrade, but that must be a specific key as the one they used didn't work for me.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you John, entering this generic product code fixed my system too.

    I was upgrading a new Win 11 Home PC to Win 11 Pro from the Microsoft store.

    During the install I also got the 0x80070490 error. After a reboot I had Windows 11 Enterprise installed and said it was Activated??? The next day Microsoft must have detected their error and deactivated my system. Still showed Win 11 Enterprise.

    Tried the suggested generic product code and a few reboots later I still see Win 11 Pro is activated.

    Seems too good to be true... Cannot upgrade from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro Error Code 0x80070490 :)

    Trying to upgrade to Windows Pro 11 (from Home 11) error code 0x80070490

    That upgrade failed error is a known issue. If you've Pro edition key already with you, you can directly insert your Windows 11 Pro product key and restart (important!) to complete upgrade.
