Windows 10: Cannot upgrade to Windows 10 1903 - Error 0x80004005

Cannot update to 1903 from 1803.


It goes through the whole process of downloading and installing, and, after a few hours, I get that it failed with Error 0x80004005.


I have tried a LOT of different things to get this going (All the DSIM commands, ran into an article about the WindowsApps directory (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/windows-10-update-error/df37d33b-b4bc-479b-9211-798edd6e4bd5) and a few others.


Found that I had a few weird issues. For the above article, I was unable to rename the directory after following the process. Ended up having to reboot in Safemode WITHOUT networking so I could rename the directory. Found that I have an account that appears to be corrupted because it is only a GUID (Not really sure what account it could be, the PC is only a few months old and pretty clean as I have not installed and uninstalled much).


Now, for the info, it is a DELL Inspiron with an i5 and 8gig of RAM (it is only a few months old) running Windows 10 Pro 1803. Plenty of hard drive space available, only additional hardware is a Canon USB attached scanner). I am running Windows Defender for AV supplemented with Malwarebytes. I cannot do a system restore to a previous date (another weird thing, it was disabled for some reason). I would really rather not do a Reset because it would take me way more time than it is work to set everything mach up and copy all my data back.


Anyone have any other ideas?

Error 0x80004005

I have looked over many other posts about this, all with the same error code, but with a different problem.

I have a computer thats a few years old, it has an ABIT kn8-sli motherboard, and its running off windows XP.

I was having problem with the hard drive before I gave up on it awhile back, and now I have come back and resolved that problem, but now when I get to the login screen and type in the password it says its in need of an update, then when it asks me if I want to update I click Yes, and then it says it won't work due to error 0x80004005.

The only operating system I have currently is windows 7. Do I need to go buy a new OS or is this recoverable?
