Windows 10: Cannot upload docx or doc files to certain webpages

I have a problem with uploading docx and doc files to certain webpages like indeed and Linkedin. so I have tried to do as much troubleshooting as possible but I am running out of ideas.



I'm using a Hp EliteBook 850-G4 with windows 10 Home edition

I do not have any third-party firewall or antivirus, just the build-in protection, where I have not changed any of the default settings.

I do not have Office word installed, but uses LibreOffice

And I regularly run windows update.



the error I get is always something in the line of you can only upload approved files like docx, doc or pdf

Note that I can upload pdf files, but they are really bad for the AI that most companies use to read job applications.

I can also upload files to cloud services like dropbox, google drive, and sync.com



Things I have tried:

1. using Chrome, Firefox, Old internet explorer, opera, and the new chromium-based edge my default browser; none of them works
2. uploading the same files from my wifes windows 10 pro computer; this works fine, so I don't think it's an error with the file
3. using my wife's office work to save the file, and then upload them from my computer; doesn't work.
4. using the online version of 360 word to write a test document, download it and try to upload it; did not work
5. I have tried uploading the files on my computer with a VirtualBox machine running Rasbian raspberry pi; this also works fine, so it seems it's not my wifi adaptor or network.
6. I have tried in safe-mode with network-enabled; did not work, so I don't think it's a weird background process.
7. I have tried with firewall and antivirus disabled; still does not work.

So I guess my question is two-fold.

Does anybody have more troubleshooting ideas that I can try? I would like to avoid reinstalling windows

Does anybody know of some secret windows 10 features that universally block the upload of word files to selected webpages?


My personal theory is that something is changing the metadata of the docx or doc files, so that upload services that relies on those to approve the file type fails, and file services that just upload the data as binary doesn't care.
But why it's only happing on this windows 10 installation and not my virtual machine or my wife's computer is beyond my understanding.


I know its a long shot, but i would be grateful for any suggestions.

Hello,

You can simply convert .txt file to a word file by simply using a .doc as an extension. Follow these steps:

• Open file using Notepad.
• Click File.
• Hit Save as, then rename the file. (Make sure to use .doc or .docx as an extension)
• Click Save.

Microsoft Wordpad Missing Docx Save Type

Updated WordPad versions cannot save files in .doc or .docx format anymore, unlike the previous versions. For us to convert the .txt file to .docx format, we suggest that you follow these steps:

• Right-click on the .txt file. Select Open with, and then click on
  Choose another app.
• How do you want to open this file? window will pop up. If you can't see the
  Word app from the list of options, click on More apps, and the select
  Word.

• The document will now open in Word app. Click on File tab.
• On the left pane, select Save As.
• On the right pane, select Word Document (*.docx) from the drop down box.

• Click on Save button.

comments and tags in docx files don't display in explorer file folders
