Windows 10: Canon printer not working after Windows 10 update sorted

I have a Canon TS5050 only purchased 4 months ago, working perfectly until first week of this month when Windows 10 Version 2004 update installed automatically. Then could not print and spent 2 weeks trying every way possible to sort this. Microsoft live chat could not sort out and I even emailed the CEO but received no response to that. I tracked down I had the KB4557957 installed in June and this had caused no problem until the August Windows 10 update. Apparently this is one of the KB numbers causing printer problems - but when I tried to uninstall this, there was no uninstall option on my laptop for this particular number. I also ran the printer troubleshooter and it just came up with no issue with the printer itself.

I eventually found after much googling, a site called "How to perform a hard reset on a Canon Printer" to do if your laptop and printer are not communicating. Bit of a pain as I had to write down by hand all the instructions but was hopeful as it can often resolve printer issues like "printer not responding" and "errror" messages. I followed instructions exactly and it has worked, for me so I pass this information on to anyone else who is struggling with this printer problem in the hope it can work for them too.

GaryRouth's suggestion didn't work for me. But I took his lead and used a slightly different process that eventually worked.

I uninstalled the Canon software in "Programs and Features",

rebooted my machine,

then went to Canon's site and downloaded the full package from Canon for my printer,

extracted the package,

went to the extracted files and opened the DrvSetup folder,

ran the DELDRV64.exe utility to cleanup the old software,

then ran the Setup64.exe to install the Canon software.

Since I've followed these steps, the printer works and the Windows Update for the printer isn't showing up.

This product is not compatible with the operating system selected and no drivers will be made available. Please consider upgrading either your product or operating system to a model or version that is supported.

Also, I suggest you to ensure to have the latest version of the printer software installed on your PC .

Please follow these steps below, to resolve the issue:

Step 1: I suggest you to download the Windows 8.1 printer driver from the below canon website and then try to install the printer driver in compatibility mode.

Step 2: I would suggest you to try to install the driver in compatibility mode.

1. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘Properties’.

2. Click on the ‘Compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8/8.1 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the
issue persists.

Please try to refer to the suggestions given by JimWynne replied on December 8, 2015, to fix your issue.

Windows 10 drivers for Canon MX452 Printer

I tried all of the suggestions you gave me & none of them worked. In answer to the questions, I have no other error messages. It keeps adding the Canon MX450 printer instead of the MX452. I had other problems but I fixed them. I typed in devmgmt.msc
& typed it in again. The drop down list came up but did not have the name OTHER in it. When I clicked on the PIXMA MX452 driver download & clicked on Start Download I got 2 boxes. Step 1 RUN & Step 2 Click YES. I clicked 0n Step 1 but it never gets to
Step 2. I really don't like the Windows 10 that was automatically forced on me. Any other suggestions ? Donn
