Windows 10: Can't access AOL IMAP server via Win10/Outlook

Outlook 2003 could access AOL account on 3/24/19 night. Starting 3/25/19 morning can't access AOL IMAP server anymore on my desktop. Didn't change any outlook email account settings which are what microsoft article/AOL states should be:

IMAP​

Incoming mail server (IMAP): imap.aol.com
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.aol.com


IMAP-993-SSL
SMTP-465-SSL

Outlook just tries to login to AOL IMAP server (popup login window comes up continuely) with no success, timeouts, give error that IMAP server not available.


Tried to delete email account and setup again as above. Same problem exist.

I have outlook 2016 on my laptop which windows updated and having the same issue as on desktop.


AOL says my email account is setup right as well as I can login to my email via chrome. on AOL website.

AOL says problem is with Windows/outlook. Was there some Win10 Pro update on Monday morning that could be causing this?

Outlook and Verizon Mail on AOL


Sometime back Verizon gave their e-mail operations to AOL. All has been working well until earlier this week when suddenly the IMAP folders would not sync. Checking online, all that could be found was to reset the IMAP settings in Outlook. After doing this multiple times, uninstalled/reinstalled Office 365. Seems Outlook wants to go to Yahoo servers instead of AOL. Using manual repair, attempts to change them to AOL were not successful, kept reverting back to AOL.
I contacted AOL, response was to reset the IMAP settings, which I've done many times.
Finally in a web search I found two threads in answers.microsoft.com about others with the same issues. AOL was giving them the run around as well.
Finally I got another response from AOL:
"Good Day,

Based on the information provided, please note that you can encounter this situation due to the recent updates made to our website.

Unfortunately, at the moment, there is no option available that allows to make any changes to the specific settings.

Given the situation, you have the option to install and use the AOL App or you can access your account, by going to mail.aol.com.

We hope this information will be of use. Please let us know if we may assist you in the future.

Obviously AOL has no intention of resolving this issue. Not good news for Outlook users.

Delete mails in Outlook but want to keep mails untouch in webmail

When I deleted an email in outlook and my webmail got deleted too. I want to keep all the inbox mails from the webmail even I complete deleted in outlook. I spend hrs can't think it out how. Any step by step instruction? I'm using IMAP account btw. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

 

AOL mail not working with Windows 10 mail ?

Hello tynaskos, I’m Virginia an independent advisor here.

I’ve seen that error on accounts which have two-factor/step authentication where the user requires an app specific password which is entered in place of the account password.

Does the AOL account use this security feature?

If not then check the usual ‘suspects’: username & password, whether the account uses SSL & whether the port numbers are set correctly.

The IMAP settings for AOL mail are as follows:

AOL Mail IMAP server address: imap.aol.com

AOL Mail IMAP user name: Your full AOL Mail email address. For AOL email, this is your AOL screen name plus "@aol.com," such as "*** Email address is removed for privacy ***" (or @love.com, @games.com
