Windows 10: Can't access computer or Internet after restoring from backup

Hello all,My basic issue: I restored my computer from a backup, and now I can't log in to my computer or access the Internet.I own an HP Envy x360 laptop. Recently, I bought an HP Envy desktop. Today I used a hard drive Western Digital to restore my files and settings from my laptop to my desktop. The restore was successful. However, now I cannot log into my desktop.When I try to log in, I receive the error message, "Your PIN is no longer available due to the security settings on this device. Click to set up your PIN again." When I click to set up my PIN, I receive a message that I am not co

Having trouble restoring from a windows 10 backup to a new computer

Hi Tim,

You can restore files from a backup from another computer by following the steps below:

• Select the Start button, then select Control Panel >
  System and Maintenance > Backup and Restore.
  
• Choose Select another backup to restore files from, and then follow the steps in the wizard. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

This files will be restored in a folder having the "Username" of the one who created the file. To find the restored files:

• Select the Start button, then select Computer.
• Double-click the icon of the drive that the files are saved on, for example
  C:\.
• Double-click the Users folder. You will see a folder for each user account.
• Double-click the folder for the user name that was used to create the backup. The restored files will be in the various folders based on where they were located originally.

Free hard drive backup/restore program?

I am looking for a free (freeware) program that will back up and restore a hard drive. I'm looking to clone a few external hard drives. If the program will backup the used space instead of the whole drive this will be awesome! Thanks for any suggestions.

 

Restoring a backup to a different computer

I think your reply answers my question. If I remember correctly, I think my backup has a system image, which can screw my previous installation. Now, I am thinking of doing this

• creating a backup of my work computer
• restoring the backup of my previous computer
• recovering files
• restoring the backup of my work computer
