  1. Can't access desktopserver folder from local machine

    Good Morning, Afernoon or Evening.

Having an issue with a network computer today, after using the computer successfully over the weekend, when logging in this morning nothign has been restarted since last using the desktop in the office can no longer access the desktop folder which is housed on the server.

The "office" machine successfully logs into windows from the user account selection screen.
I can run programs from the office which are stored and run from the server however i can not access anything inside my \folder redirection\<user>\desktop folder.

I have had a look at the permissions on the folder in question however nothing there seems to have helped.
There where a couple of enumeration errors thrown which i have followed microsoft guidence for while trying to change and then revert the folder permissions but im still getting the error pop up.

The folder cant be accessed from the server machine when signed in as an admin and the office machin.

this is the only error thats being thrown, there are about 10 computers all running from the server and no other machine is having an issue connecting / loading their individual desktops.

if anyone could point me in the right general direction i would be very thankful.

  2. Remote access to my (local) server's folders

I am running a simple local fileserver. Windows based.

I would like to access (load, save, modify) what's on this server when I am away on business trips. Laptop -- internet -- router - server

What is the best way to do this? Setup WebDAV or ftp-server or something else? I would prefer direct access, ie. being able to load/save from an application rather than using ftp as a separate step.

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

    • I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

    • Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.
That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.

Can't access desktopserver folder from local machine

Cannot access Win10 machine via local network

I am 'birthing' my first Win10 machine, OS V1809, and must have goofed something up...

All machines in my home belong to the same Workgroup and the users/passwords are consistent across all machines. From my Win7 desktop, I:
    • Can access my Win10 machine, via Explorer, using its IP address
    • Can ping the Win10 machine using both its name and IP address
    • Cannot access the Win10 machine, via Explorer, using its name

From the Win10 machine, I can see all other computers on the network and access all of them.

I do not believe that this is a firewall issue as the issue persists when the firewall is disabled. I do believe that network and file sharing is enabled (but, I could be wrong). The issue exists with both the Ethernet and WiFi connections, so it is probably not interface-specific.

Please suggest what I can do to resolve this issue. Thx.
