  1. Can't access files on old Windows 10 drive via USB

I had an old windows 10 PC with a 500 GB hard drive which was split into two 250GB partitions. I scrapped the PC because it was getting slow and pulled out the old sata hard drive to keep before I threw the rest away. After some months I remembered that there were some files on the old drive that I wanted to get at so I bought a USB sata adapter and power supply and plugged the drive into my new PC. I can see both partitions on the drive but there are no files in either drives just a System Volume Information folder which won't open. I'm sure I didn't reformat the drive so where have my files gone? I'm not hiding system files or anything obvious like that.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Can't access files on old Windows 10 drive via USB

    Accessing a Hard Drive...

    ...from a dead laptop.

My girlfriend's laptop recently s**t the bed, and she has a lot of photos she would like to retrieve from it. I used a USB to IDE cable to try, but it's a no go. Her drive has Windows XP Home on it, and my system has Win7 x64. The computer recognizes the drive, but it wants me to initialize it, which I think may format it.

I don't know if it's formatted FAT32 or NTFS. Are there any suggestions on accessing the drive to pull all this data off of it?
