  1. Can't access hard-drive to move my files safely

Yesterday I was able to hook up my hard-drive to an external case so I could transfer the files but I had a "could not move files" error so I repaired the drive and by the time it was done I went to bed. Today I went back and hooked up the hard-drive only for it to tell me that it couldn't be formatted. I am genuinely annoyed over how stupid windows is as it was working fine yesterday and nothing touched it since then. I have way to many files that I am not going to risk losing so don't even suggest to reformat it. Please help.

    :)

    Accessing a Hard Drive...

You can boot from Norton Ghost and clone that disk to your hard drive. Then boot normally install virtual machine with xp and from that machine access cloned drive. It's a complex but safe process.

    Accessing a Hard Drive...

    ...from a dead laptop.

My girlfriend's laptop recently s**t the bed, and she has a lot of photos she would like to retrieve from it. I used a USB to IDE cable to try, but it's a no go. Her drive has Windows XP Home on it, and my system has Win7 x64. The computer recognizes the drive, but it wants me to initialize it, which I think may format it.

I don't know if it's formatted FAT32 or NTFS. Are there any suggestions on accessing the drive to pull all this data off of it?

    Stored files in Hard Drive

You can use Windows search. Just search for *.* on a desired drive. When list is done just arrange them by size LOL.

You can do it via command line as well and make an output text file showing files and their sizes (but without arrangement)
