  1. Can't access Win 10 sheared folders from XP but can from Server 2008

So we have this system where we have Server 2008 hosting the Domain and a whole lot (~20) XP machines connected through routers as per normal.

Well as XP is so far out of date, I am trying to replace the computers as I can, some will cost big $$$$$$ to replace so I can't just do it all at once.

The problem is that I have just installed a Win 10 Pro PC as a replacement and can't get the file sharing working. I have tried this 318030 but is doesn't help. The strange thing is that from the Server 2008 PC I am able to access the shared folders and everything.

    :)

File sharing between Win 10 and XP

I have the Win 10 computer getting into the folders on the XP. Ironically, from one Win 10 computer, I cannot get into the folders on the other Win 10 computer. The folders show on the C drive, but I get "Windows cannot access...." if I try to open a folder.
Homegroups have been setup on both machines. The C drives are shared on both machines.

Remote access to my (local) server's folders

But what if he tries to access this mapped drive when he is not on the same subnet of his server ?

Can't access Win 10 sheared folders from XP but can from Server 2008

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

    • I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

    • Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.
That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.
