Windows 10: cant activate Windows . got it from a pawn shop. it is running windows 10 pro version 1809

Please help... I am afraid to restore this to its original windows 8 with out knowing for sure the original product and key codes will work. I have pulled the codes from the computer but they don't work when I change the "key" in the activation window. It also states I need to contact my administrators access to this key? I have no idea what to do. I cant find the original owner.

Can anybody explain in laymans terms to what I can do.

Recently bought a toshiba laptop from a pawn shop. It has windows 10 installed but when i go to activate it. It tells me “We can’t activate windows on this device as we can’t connect to your organizations activation server. Make sure you’re connected to
you’re connected to your organizations network and try again” It also tells me im not running a genuine copy pf windows. So, what should I do and, what can i do to fix these issues. Anything would be of help.

It's called a Volume License - and it likely means that laptop should not have been sold in that state to the pawn shop.



Is there a Windows sticker found anywhere on the laptop? (Under the battery compartment, even...)

A KMS license, would suggest you either have Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Enterprise installed.

If the edition listed on the COA sticker, doesn't correspond with either of those editions, you need to reinstall the right edition.

The copy of Windows 10 you download and upgrade from will correspond with the edition of Windows you have installed, if it does not, this is why you might be experiencing problems activating:

• Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Windows 8.0 Core, Windows 8.1 Core will install Windows 10 Home
  

• Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8.0 Pro, Windows 8.1 Pro will installWindows 10 Pro

To find out if you have the right edition installed:

Click Start > Settings > Update & security > Activation > Edition.

If the edition of Windows 10 installed does not correspond with the edition of Windows 7 or Windows 8 you were previously running, then you need to reinstall the right edition.
