Windows 10: Can’t add directly to my C: Drive?

I can’t download anything or put anything new in c drive unless it is in a folder or if I download it to the downloads folder. I’m not sure if this was previously there and I happened to not download to it but I feel like it used to let me. I tried doing the icacls reset thing to no avail.It’s more annoying than anything. I can’t still access files and stuff and add files to folders in the drive or add new folders with stuff in them but not stuff straight to the c drive

I'd like to help you get this issue resolved. You say you cannot save to your C: drive.

Is this a personal computer or a work computer?

Were you able to save directly to the C: drive previously?

If you were able to save directly to the C: drive previously, did you install any software or Windows updates right before you were unable to save directly to the C: drive?

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

  Press Windows +E,
  
• 
  Right click on C: drive.
  
• 
  Select Sharing Tab.
  
• 
  Click on Advanced Sharing.
  
• 
  Uncheck “Share this folder”.
