Windows 10: Can't adjust screen brightness after installing Windows Updates KB5042099, KB5041585, and...

I have done a routine Windows update via Update and Restart. This update installed KB5042099, KB5041585, and KB5042131.After the installations, I immediately noticed that I could not adjust the screen brightness. I can move the brightness slider via the keyboard shortcut, in the settings, and via the quick access on the lower right corner of the screen, but they don't affect the actual brightness. What is going on here?

To manually adjust the screen brightness, we suggest following these troubleshooting steps:

• Click Start, then select Settings.
• Choose System, then select Display.
