  2. can't authenticate to new Windows 11 Pro PC from Windows 10 PC using Remote Desktop Client OR the Remote desktop app.

we have been using RDC to connect remote users (Windows 10 Pro) to connect to our existing Windows 10 Pro Pc's in the office.

We just purchased several new Windows 11 Pro PCs and now I can't connect to them using either the Remote Desktop Program or the App (from the Microsoft Store).

Here are the particulars (and yes I may have missed something when I did the initial setup of the Windows 11 Pro PCs:

    • Since we have to use a Microsoft Account to setup the PC, I used the same email addressed as we have for our Office 365 E3 accounts. For example, the user name I set up on Windows 11 Pro would be "*** Email address is removed for privacy ***"
    • I loaded all the required software that we use onto that PC (including downloading Office 365 from the office.com webpage after authenticating with the same "*** Email address is removed for privacy ***" and password).
    • Now that everything is installed, I wanted to be sure that our remote (home) users could connect to their office PC. We DO NOT have an Active Directory server. Our Windows 10 users (remote and in the office used al local account to log in). We are behind a SonicWALL firewall and use NetExtender to connect to the office and have access rights to the LAN subnet.
    • I can connect to the office-based computer and it asks for the username and password. It will NOT accept the password.
    • I've tried logging in as AzureAD\*** Email address is removed for privacy *** but that doesn't work either.
    • Creating a local account isn't helpful either as since the software we use is already installed under the *** Email address is removed for privacy *** login, the local account (obviously) doesn't have the same software installed.
We didn't want to create separate Microsoft accounts as using the current *** Email address is removed for privacy *** login seemed to work fine for setting up the new Windows 11 Pro Pc's.

    So my questions are:

    • Did I miss something?
    • Is AzureAD required to authenticate to the new PC's (or could it be removed/disabled)?
    • The error message from the Remote Desktop App is Error code: 0x9735 Extended error code: 0x0
      Activity ID: {5d5db14c-8062-48c2-85f4-4d12cb840000}.
    • Contacting Microsoft Support always channels me to RDT support (asks for CALs and assumes we authenticate to a Active Directory Windows Server).

I've looked at countless articles online but nothing that I've found thus far seems to work.

I'd welcome a solution or fixes that could be made to resolve this.

    Thanks!

How To Create Two Factor Authentication for Remote Desktop

Hello Bill sorry for the late reply.

You said that you were recently infected with a ransomware virus & that it probably came through your open remote desktop, so yes it's a good idea to change remote software, & skip windows RDP & jump desktop*Smile

Change the software from Windows RDP & Jump Desktop to Teamviewer.
    Install teamviewer on all computers.
Set up unattended access on the computers you wish to connect to.
( You can do this in the installation process or when teamviewer is installed @ Settings > Security )

And make a teamviewer account ( if you haven't already done so *Smile )
This will make it so that you can connect to them through a list ( Once your signed in )
    which is very convenient.

How To Create Two Factor Authentication for Remote Desktop

    xTL -

I will trying using Team Viewer for my 2 step authentication but I have a couple of questions so I understand what I need to do.

Currently I am using Windows Remote Desktop which is turned ON for my three Windows PC's. I also use a program Jump Desktop that is installed on my MacBook Pro to login to each PC.

When I use Team Viewer do I install that on each PC and my Mackbook Pro then use the Team Viewer 2 step authentication? Do I no longer use Windows RDP or the Jump Desktop software that is installed on MacBook Pro?

Thanks very much for you help - I really appreciate it! Bill
