  1. Can't boot into external nvme drive

Hello. I am having problems getting into a bootable drive on my Legion S7 16IAH7. I have a Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SN5000 NVMe Internal Solid State Drive SSD - PCIe Gen 4.0, M.2 2280. I'm using it externally via SSK Aluminum M.2 NVME SATA SSD Enclosure Adapter, USB 3.2 Gen 2 10 Gbps to NVME PCI-E SATA M-Key/B+M Key Solid State Drive External Enclosure. I have formatted my drive, and I have changed the "secured boot" to disabled on BIOS/UEFI settings. Do I need to enable usb in the BIOS/UEFI settings? What else do I need to do in order to boot into it? Currently, I am doing a FULL UEFI

    :)

  2. How do I erase the contents on my boot drive nvme?

    Dear Forest Pedrosa,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your query about securely erasing the contents of your NVMe boot drive before transitioning to a new motherboard. It’s indeed crucial to ensure that your data is securely erased to maintain privacy and prevent any potential issues during the transition.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to securely erase the contents of your NVMe drive:

    1. Backup Important Data: Before proceeding with any data deletion, it’s essential to backup any important files and data from your NVMe drive to an external storage device or a cloud storage service.
    2. Create a Bootable USB with Windows 10: You’ll need to create a bootable USB with the Windows 10 installation media. You can do this using the Media Creation Tool available on the Microsoft website.
    3. Boot from the USB Drive: Restart your computer and boot from the USB drive. You might need to change the boot order in your BIOS to do this.
    4. Open Command Prompt: On the Windows Setup screen, press Shift + F10 to open a Command Prompt window.
    5. Identify the Drive: Type diskpart and press Enter, then type list disk and press Enter. This will display a list of all the drives connected to your computer. Identify the NVMe drive that you want to erase.
    6. Select the Drive: Type select disk X (replace X with the number of your NVMe drive) and press Enter.
    7. Clean the Drive: Type clean and press Enter. This will erase all the data on the drive.
    8. Exit DiskPart and Command Prompt: Type exit and press Enter twice to exit DiskPart and the Command Prompt.
    9. Continue with the Windows Installation: You can now continue with the Windows installation process.
By following these steps, you can securely erase the contents of your boot drive NVMe and prepare it for use with your new motherboard. If you encounter any difficulties or have further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask for assistance.

  3. bios keeps switching my boot drive

If your NVMe drive is not showing up in the boot priority list, it's possible that the BIOS settings may need to be adjusted. Here are a few things you can try:

Make sure that your NVMe drive is properly installed and recognized in the BIOS. Check to see if it appears in the list of storage devices in the BIOS.

Check to see if there is an option to enable NVMe support in the BIOS. This option may be located in the storage or boot options.

Check the boot mode setting in the BIOS. If your NVMe drive is using the UEFI boot mode, make sure that the boot mode setting in the BIOS is also set to UEFI.

Check to see if there is a firmware update available for your NVMe drive. Some firmware updates can improve compatibility with certain systems and may resolve boot issues.

Try resetting the BIOS to its default settings. This can sometimes resolve issues with boot priority and may allow your NVMe drive to be recognized.

If none of these steps work, it may be worth contacting the manufacturer of your motherboard or NVMe drive for further assistance.

Can't boot into external nvme drive

Will I lose dual-booting if I clone HDD to NVMe using Macrium?

NavyLCDR - interesting suggestion - connect the NVMe drive before running the steps in the amazing article I linked to? Just to see that the 7010 (in each of Win 10 and Win 7 booting from the HDD) recognizes the NVMe for storage purposes, and that therefore each Win has the drivers for the Samsung NVMe? I like it.
