Windows 10: Can’t change pin or reset laptop - Windows 11

Hi, I have an Acer laptop running Windows 11. It wouldn’t turn on, so I hard reboot it. Now at the log in screen I can’t type my pin as it is asking me to reset it, yet it says I don’t have internet to access my Microsoft account either. I have tried entering Safe Mode and the Troubleshooting page via Shift + Restart and it just reboots normally with no new menus. Any help appreciate!

Windows 11 needs PIN - lost PIN & Password - Help!

To reset a forgotten PIN code, please complete these steps: (Require your phone number.)

Step 1: On the Windows 11 login screen, click “I forgot my PIN” under the PIN password box.

Step 2: Enter your user account password and then click “Sign in”.

Step 3: you need to verify your identity, choose a way to receive code and continue.

Step 4: If you choose your phone number, enter the last 4 digits of the phone number. Then click “Send code”.

Step 5: You will receive a code in seconds. Type in your received code and then click “Verify”.

Step 6: Select “Continue”.

Step 7: Type in a new PIN and type it again to confirm. Then click “OK”. The new PIN password is working now.

Can't reset my PIN

1. Were there any changes made to the operating system recently?
   
2. Is the system connected with Wired or wireless connection?
   

If you are using wireless connection, I suggest you to plug in to the Ethernet cable and try entering the password. I also suggest you to change the Microsoft password by login to
login.live.com from other device. Try entering the password through
on-screen keyboard.

I also suggest you to enable build-in admin account using command prompt from WinRE, follow the below steps, and check if that helps.

Step: Enable built-in admin from WinRE.

1. On the login screen click on the power button at the bottom right corner of the screen.
2. Hold Shift key and click on restart.
3. Click on Troubleshoot.
4. Click on Advanced options.
5. Click on Command Prompt.
6. Type the command net user administrator /active:yes and press Enter key.
7. Once logged in to the built in admin account, try changing the current user account password.

If you are unable to change the password for the account, I suggest you to create a new user account. Follow the steps from the article to create a new user account

Changing PIN on windows 10 PC and Windows 11 Laptop

I successfully changed my PIN on my PC (windows 10) whilst logged i to my Microsoft account. I then tried to login to my laptop using the new PIN (Windows 11) but was advised PIN no is incorrect.

I can still login using the same password used on my windows 10 PC, but not with the new PIN no.
